What a complete misreading of history.

The colonists were outcasts. Many of them set up repressive regimes as soon as they arrived. They survived by luck and exploitation (there's the character of America). They survived exploiting slavery and indentured servants.

About 1/3 of them chafed under British rule and dragged the rest of the country into war that we won with the help of the French as a sideshow to the main French/English conflict.

It's one thing to dump on revisionist history, quite another to make up a mythology. A mythology tinged by those who cover their crimes with pretty words.

They were good words, mind you, and one day we may yet be worthy of them. To imagine a past that never was won't get us there. - schqc

But the sheep WANT a shepherd. Not much can be done about that. I think the pioneer spirit was bred out of most of us long ago. Or maybe I'm suffering post election blues. Blues-I made a pun! - daddysteve
