Michele Bachman asking for an investigation into the patriotism of certain members of congress and Oliver North comparing the expansion of Americorp to the programs of Hitler and Stalin? The Texas governor unwilling to step away from the possibility of secession? There is danger and a lack of intellectual honesty in this sort of rhetoric. Natalie Maines and the Dixie Chicks subjected to reactionary outbursts coordinated by factions on the right? Death threats on the answering machines of Acorn offices? And that horrid Sarah Palin tossing out incendiary spew that had to be tempered by John McCain himself. There have been numerous threats on the life of Barack Obama. Journalists and other members of the media who have been labeled as "libs," are also recieving death threats. There is such concern over these types of threats that the media is being asked to downplay them for fear of copycat crimes. Jim Adkisson is not a well know name. He opened fire in a Unitarian church, killing two people last summer. Police discovered a "manifesto" in his home that contained the following passage. "Who I wanted to kill was every Democrat in the Senate and House, the 100 people in Bernard Goldberg's book. I'd like to kill everyone in the mainstream media. But I knew these people were inaccessible to me. I couldn't get to the generals and high-ranking officers of the Marxist movement so I went after the foot soldiers, the chicken (expletive) liberals that vote in these traitorous people." Richard Poplawski recently killing three policemen and wounding three others in Pittsburgh, stating that he was concerned over Obama taking his gun and other rights away. As far as the bogus argument that the Obama administration is calling into question the stability of returning veterans, remember that an FBI report several years ago warned law enforcement across the country that gang activity in the military could pose a threat to law enforcement and national security.
