I beg to differ with the previous commenter. The Times has broken news regularly on its website and has often scooped the local TV stations. - A Times Fan

It's very common knowledge among local newspaper readers, you get the Times for local Iowa coverage, and the Dispatch for local Illinois coverage. QC Times local coverage of the south side of the Mississippi is sparse. In my opinion, the problems w/ our local newspapers is that they're too slow. Things show up in the newspapers days to weeks after they've already been covered by TV news, or bigger news outlets on the net. QC Times also has a reputation of treating their carriers like dirt. - Bill DiBurgh Rothschild

Thanks for the analysis of the two daily newspapers. The methodology was reasonable, and the results were only mildly surprising. I still rely on newspapers as a primary source of news, and they're the best source of local news. I get state, national, and international nwws from other sources. Would it be possible to do a similar comparison of the television newscasts at the prime 6:00 and 10:00 p.m. times? - Gary Rowe
