We began the week by recording one of the world's hottest young bands, The Black Kids, and one that should definitely be watched in the next year - Black Joe Lewis & the Honeybears. The Austin band will be back touring through the Midwest in October with Okkervil River and Crooked Fingers, and early indications from them are that there might be a hole in their schedule that would allow the tour to come through the Quad Cities.
At the end of the week, we'll have The Ruby Suns from New Zealand in for a session. The Sub Pop band will be making a special trip to town before flying home following the tour.
We're still trying to solidify a show that would be a nice little pre-party for the August 14 Tapes 'N Tapes/Driver of the Year show at the Redstone Room. This would be on August 12 and involve The Royal Bangs and Oh No Oh My side project Antenna Shoes, who are both terrific. Nothing is certain yet, so stay tuned to Daytrotter.com for up-to-the-minute details.
We're happy to announce a bunch of September shows today. Some of them involve tentative venues, but all of them will happen somewhere here in town. Here's what we're looking at: J Roddy, September 1; James Jackson Toth with The Dutchess & the Duke, September 9; Pepi Ginsberg, September 10; The Donkeys, September 10; Thao Nguyen & the Get Down Stay Down, September 18; High Places, September 21; Dark Meat with Damien Jurado and Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson, September 24; and Tokyo Police Club with The Whigs, September 28.
See you at the shows. Please bring friends and please visit the site regularly. It's the only way we can keep doing these shows.
