· The seminal funk record of the 1980s gets an upgraded reissue this Tuesday. Motown's recent "Deluxe Edition" program is hitting all the bells again, with their introduction of Rick James' Street Songs to a new bounce generation. Now expanded to two CDs, the album featured the monster hit "Super Freak" (with probably the most infectious bass line of the past 30 years), as well as the single "Give It to Me Baby" and the smoking duet of "Fire & Desire" with Teena Marie. The second disc presents an entire live concert recorded at the peak of the "Super Freak" fever, and a new 28-page booklet of cover-photo outtakes.

· The shadowy instrumentalists Los Straitjackets have gone vocal - well, sort of. The band's new album, Sing Along With Los Straitjackets, features a cocktail party of friends including El Vez, the Rev. Horton Heat, Dave Alvin, Big Sandy, Nick Lowe, Exene Cervenka of X, Leigh Nash of Sixpence None the Richer, and Mark Lindsay taking hold of the golden microphone. The Yep Roc Records release hits store shelves next week.

· Master musician and "jam" pioneer Charlie Hunter is releasing a new album this Tuesday, Songs from the Analog Playground, on the Blue Note label, featuring special guests Theryl de Clouet of Galactic and Mos Def. The set promises a few extra intriguing "must hear" covers of tunes by Nick Drake and Roxy Music.
