· This Tuesday brings the most guest-list-heavy CD in recent memory, with Rhino Records' release of Small World Big Band Volume Two: More Friends from Jools Holland & His Rhythm & Blues Orchestra. Fueled by big-band boogie-woogie, the album features classic standards such as "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" with the Stereophonics and a take on Bob Dylan's "You Got to Serve Somebody" with vocalist Marianne Faithfull. Holland, the former Squeeze keyboardist, is in good company with guests Tom Jones, Bono of U2, Ray Davies of The Kinks, Chrissie Hynde of The Pretenders, Bryan Ferry of Roxy Music, Robert Plant, Jeff Beck, and the late soul sensation Edwin Starr. Other odd collaborators include Jimmy Cliff, Norah Jones, George Benson, Dionne Warwick, Badly Drawn Boy, Huey from the Fun Lovin' Criminals, and The Blind Boys of Alabama.

· More guest-list mania has my ears perked for a number of upcoming releases. This Tuesday's release of Street Child by Elan bears the Silverlight Records imprint and guests Slash, Alan Weatherhead of Sparklehorse, and David Lowery of Cracker. Due June 3 from Roadrunner Records is a two-CD set from Junkie XL, entitled Radio XL: A Broadcast from the Computer Hell Cabin, featuring guests Gary Numan, Chuck D of Public Enemy, and Terry Hall of the Specials. Killing Joke is back this summer with a new album, Axis of Evil, produced by Andy Gill of the Gang of Four, and featuring special guest Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters. Grohl also drops in on Smashing Pumpkins bassist Melissa Auf Der Maur's solo debut, with Josh Homme and Nick Oliveri of Queens of the Stone Age and Mark Lanegan of Screaming Trees. Speaking of Queens of the Stone Age, Homme's upcoming Desert Sessions 9/10 on the Ipecac imprint will feature Polly Jean Harvey, Vandals drummer Josh Freese, and Twiggy Ramirez of Marilyn Manson. Limp Bizkit's upcoming Panty Sniffer album isn't due now until September, but boasts guests Snoop Dogg, Bubba Sparxx, Rivers Cuomo of Weezer, Al Jourgensen of Ministry, and Page Hamilton of Helmet. Soul diva Patti LaBelle is back with a new album featuring guests Prince and Lenny Kravitz. The Robert Cray Band's upcoming Time Will Tell, due in July on the Sanctuary label, features the original Sly & the Family Stone horn section. Michael Franti and Spearhead's latest, Everyone Deserves Music, is due later this summer on the iMusic imprint and boasts reggae legends Sly & Robbie. Liz Phair's upcoming self-titled set is due in late June and features special guests Prince bassist Wendy Melvoin and Pete Yorn. Also due in late June is Hotel Paper by Michelle Branch, with guests Dave Navarro of Jane's Addiction and Sheryl Crow. U.K. electronic dup Death in Vegas is back with Scorpio Rising on June 17, and the Sanctuary Records release features guests Hope Sandoval of Mazzy Star, Paul Weller of the Jam, and Liam Gallagher of Oasis. Sadly diagnosed with terminal lung cancer, Warren Zevon is set to release My Dirty Life & Times this summer on the Artemis label, with guests John Waite of The Babys, Don Henley of The Eagles, Ry Cooder, Bob Dylan, Dwight Yoakam, and Bruce Springsteen.
