Quad City Arts is accepting nominations for a special exhibition titled “Welcome Home Quad Cities.” This exhibit will provide an opportunity for visual artists living outside of a 250 mile radius of the Quad Cities, who have Quad City connections to come back home and share their art with the community.  During East/West Riverfest, from September 7th through September 16th, Quad City Arts’ Rock Island gallery will be hosting multiple receptions with extended hours to give visiting artists and their families’ time to gather and view the exhibit.

You need JavaScript enabled to view it with the artist’s name, contact information and a link to his/her website. Nominations are being accepted until May 30th. A committee of art professionals will choose works from the nominated artists to include in the exhibition. “Welcome Home Quad Cities” will run from August 31-October 26, 2012.

 

The Quad City Arts Center Gallery is located at 1715 Second Avenue in the Arts and Entertainment District of Rock Island.  Gallery hours are Tuesday-Friday 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Saturday 11 a.m.–5 p.m. All Quad City Arts programs are funded in part by Festival of Trees; Quad City Arts Partners; and operating grants from the Illinois Arts Council, a state agency; and the Iowa Arts Council, a division of the Department of Cultural Affairs. Bettendorf —How do you keep an egg from breaking after falling from a 20 foot balcony? Egg Drop Kerplop! The Family Museum is pleased to present the 15th Annual Egg Drop Kerplop challenge on Saturday, March 31, from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm. Teams are given building materials, one raw egg, and as much as two hours (from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm) to build an impact-resistant container for the egg. When the time is up, Family Museum staff will drop the contained eggs from the balcony in the Family Museum’s Great Hall. Each team whose egg remains intact will win, but everyone gets a prize! Egg Drop Kerplop is a family event and a wonderful way for kids and parents to work together on a creative and truly challenging project! This activity is included with paid admission or Family Museum Membership.

Traveling to Germany? Brush up on your German before you go! The German American Heritage Center will be offering German language classes starting in May. Join instructor Kathi Hofmann for a “German for Travelers” language series! The class will feature travel tips, food, hotel, touring basics and typical signage as encountered by the average American tourist.

The classes consist of four 90-minute sessions on May 3rd, 10th, 17th and 24th from 5:30-7pm and the cost is $50, payable by check to GAHC at 712 W 2nd St. Davenport, IA 52802. The Phoenix Art Gallery in Moline, IL has had the privilege of exhibiting nationally and internationally known artist Robert Kameczura since November 2011. On March 23, 2012 a closing reception for the artist will be held from 7 PM until Midnight at the Gallery which is located at 1530 5th Ave in Moline, IL.
