EXELON GENERATION SPONSORS LOCAL 5K, GIVES THOUSANDS IN SUPPORT

PORT BYRON, IL - The Nick Teddy Foundation, in partnership with Nelson Chiropractic, is pleased to announce an additional sponsor of “Nick Teddy Fight Against Ewing’s Sarcoma 5K.”

Platinum Sponsor Exelon Generation is one of the largest employers in the Quad Cities area. It has provided the Nick Teddy Foundation with a significant financial contribution to help make the foundation’s first 5k a success.

29-year old Port Byron native Nick Strub fought a courageous battle against Ewing’s Sarcoma for more than 5-years. Nick’s dad, Brian, is a retired employee of Exelon Generation.

“The Strubs are a long time part of the Exelon Generation family,” said Bill Stoermer, spokesperson from the Quad Cities Generating Station. “It’s very important for us to help the Strub family honor the legacy of their son in his hometown.”

“Exelon recognizes the importance of helping communities thrive, and the Nick Teddy Foundation’s mission fits Exelon’s outreach goals,” Stoermer added.

The “Nick Teddy Fight Against Ewing’s Sarcoma 5k” will take place on Sept. 15, 2012, beginning at 9:00 AM, and offers a fun day for hundreds of participants and their families.

Mortals, Nature, and their Spirits

Ice Cube Press

A chapbook of poetry by Salvatore Marici

“Like all good folklore, the poems in Salvatore Marici’s Mortals, Nature, and their Spirits read at once meditative and elemental; they seem ‘to talk and laugh with deities.’ The labyrinth, a central image of this rich collection, is not designed to confound—‘the curvy path has neither tricks nor decisions for me to make.’ Instead, Marici’s labyrinth leads to wisdom and a greater awareness of self.” —Stephen Frech, Associate Professor of English, Millikin University, and author of A Palace of Strangers Is No City

“Mortals, Nature, and their Spirits by Salvatore Marici is an enchanting array of rhythmic encounters, sensual visions, and perceptive reflections of mysteries and magic of Nature and Nature people. It is a sacred poetic journey well crafted and well taken.” — Rev. Selena Fox, Senior, Minister, Circle Sanctuary

About the author: Salvatore Marici has had his poetry appear in several magazines, anthologies, and web journals including Circle Magazine, Off Channel, Slow Trains (online), Descant and Sweet Lemons 2: International Writings with a Sicilian Accent (Legas, 2010). He has placed and has been a finalist in several poetry contests and was the 2010 Midwest Writing Center’s poet-in-residence. He is a periodic feature poet in the Bucktown Revue.

Marici served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Guatemala and he is a civil servant retiree who worked for the Army, mainly with the job title of Agronomist. At both jobs, he managed natural resources.
