Bix Jazz Fest

The 43rd Annual Bix Beiderbecke Jazz Festival is once again being hosted in Davenport, Iowa. For four days, 16 fantastic jazz bands perform at the Adler Theatre, RiverCenter and LeClaire Park starting Thursday, July 31st and finishing on Sunday, August 3rd. www.bixsociety.org

Heartland British Auto Festival

The Quad Cities British Auto Club holds this year's Heartland British Auto Fest in LeClaire, Iowa on Saturday, August 2nd from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Show registration and car clean up is from 9:00 a.m. to noon. Voting by participants must be completed by 2:00 p.m. and awards presentation is at 3:30 p.m. First and second place trophies will be awarded to all 16 classes. Mark your calendar!

Living Lands & Waters (LL&W) is proud to announce their 2014 Barge Party will be held Thursday, August 7th from 5:30pm-9:00pm. Serving as their sole fundraising event of the year, the fun kicks off with a fish fry & shrimp boil and includes a silent art auction, live music, cash bar, barge tours, meet and greet the crew, and new this year, a wine pull!

"We're really excited to be having the Barge Party at Schwiebert Park again this year. Party plans are coming along great and tables have already sold out, but individual tickets are still available. We're looking forward to seeing familiar faces and celebrating with all that continues to support LL&W and make this all possible!" said Officer Manager Amber Pribyl.

Seating is limited. Reservations required by July 31, 2014.Tables are no longer available for purchase.

Public parking is available on surrounding streets and lots, in the Modern Woodmen Lot, as well as in a Free Parking Garage located on 3rd Avenue and 17th Street in downtown Rock Island.

Handicap Parking is available on the entrance of the park.

About Living Lands & Waters – Chad Pregracke started Living Lands & Waters in 1998 as a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the beautification and restoration of America’s major rivers and to the education of people about environmental issues. From his single boat beginning, LL&W has grown to an internationally known organization with a fleet of barges and workboats.  LL&W engages thousands of volunteers each year in river cleanups, hands-on environmental education workshops, the Great Mississippi River Cleanup, Adopt-a- River-Mile programs and the Million Trees Project.

Israeli Consulate to the Midwest rep to provide info, answer questions in program at Davenport Library-Eastern Avenue branch at 6:30 PM

ROCK ISLAND, IL – The Jewish Federation of the Quad Cities (www.jfqc.org) will host an informational program with a diplomat from the Israeli Consulate to the Midwest (Chicago) this Thursday, July 31st – 6:30 PM – at Davenport Public Library-Eastern Ave. Branch (6000 Eastern Ave, Davenport, IA).

The appearance, which was requested by the Jewish Federation, will share details on how the current conflict came to this point and what is happening now. It will also give an opportunity for the community audience to ask questions and move beyond media reports for a dialogue on the current conflict.

In addition, there will also be some brief information provided on the Jewish Federations of North America’s “Stop the Sirens” campaign (www.jewishfederations.org/stopthesirens) to assist with social service needs for Israelis in the affected areas.

The Jewish Federation of the Quad Cites (www.jfqc.org) is a non-profit, 501 c (3) Illinois corporation founded in 1980. With other local organizations, JFQC addresses a broad range of needs to include cultural, religious, educational, family welfare, care of the elderly and interfaith relations. On Saturday morning 2nd,3rd and 4th Streets will be closed for the race. River Drive to the East and West will be open.  From the north come down Western or Gaines and park right in our Lots.

You know the Market is fresh and nutritious when local chefs shop the market.

You can find it all here at the Freight House Farmers Market. Be sure to bring your best 4-legged friend, for all of those great locally made pet treats!
