It's official!  The $60M City Square proposal has been approved! A new hotel (an extension of Blackhawk), a grocery store, new Class A office, retail, and residential will be coming to core of our city within two of our most historically significant buildings.

This is one of the largest economic development projects in downtown history, and we can't wait to see construction begin.  We'd like to thank Restoration St. Louis and the City for making this possible.  Our growth and progress continues and more is on the way!

Travel through a sparkling winter wonderland this weekend at the Adler Theatre when Ballet Quad Cities presents The Nutcracker. Watch as the well known holiday classic comes to life in an enchanting production with lavish costumes, stunning lighting, and beautiful choreography. On Tuesday, fall in love with the characters, story, and music that make up Mamma Mia!

If you missed the chance to hear It's a Wonderful Life come to captivating life during It's a Wonderful Brunch, have no fear, you have another chance! Head to Hotel Blackhawk this Sunday and enjoy the American holiday classic told as a live 1940s radio broadcast! If dinner is more your thing, dine by candle light during the 5 Course Wine Dinner tomorrow night at Bix Bistro. Treat that special someone to exquisite cuisine paired perfectly with astounding wine.
Swap, trade, sell, or showcase anything pertaining to music on Tuesday at the River Music Experience! The Musical Swap Meet and Social Hour offers the opportunity for vendors and individuals to buy or sell things ranging from sound systems, records, posters, and more. This Third Sunday Jazz Series presents Classic Duets featuring Sarah Marie Young and Saalik Ziyad. Come early to participate in the all-ages workshop!

About Mayors Against Illegal Guns

Since its creation in April 2006, Mayors Against Illegal Guns has grown from 15 members to more than 1,000 mayors from across the country. We have more than 1.5 million grassroots supporters, making us the largest gun violence prevention advocacy organization in the country.  The bipartisan coalition, co-chaired by New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Boston Mayor Thomas Menino, has united the nation’s mayors around these common goals: protecting communities by holding gun offenders accountable; demanding access to crime gun trace data that is critical to law enforcement efforts to combat gun trafficking; and working with legislators to fix weaknesses and loopholes in the law that make it far too easy for criminals and other dangerous people to get guns.  Learn more at www.mayorsagainstillegalguns.org

Rock Island Library Offers Events To Entertain Teens in December and January PDF Print E-mail
News Releases - Local Events
Written by Lisa Lockheart
Monday, 09 December 2013 10:20

Rock Island, IL: Winter cold got you down? Is your teen getting cabin fever? Warm up at your Rock Island Library with free events for teens in December and January.

The Rock Island Library will offer a Teen Iron Chef Contest and a Dr. Who Party in December. The monthly Teen Iron Chef contest is from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Monday, Dec. 16 at the Rock Island Main Library, 401 19th Street. Teens choose from a selection of wildly diverse ingredients and make a plated dish to test their culinary skills against other teens for the next Iron Chef crown. The event is offered again at 6:30 pm on Monday, Jan. 13, so if your dish doesn't make the cut one month, there's always another chance.

With so many regenerations, Dr. Who doesn't look a day over 35, but the series just marked its 50th anniversary. On Thurs., Dec. 19, from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm, the library will celebrate the anniversary with a Dr. Who Party with trivia, prizes, and snacks fit for a Time Lord. Hop in your personal TARDIS (Time and Relative Dimension in Space) machine and come to the Main Library to celebrate!

In January, teens can break through cabin fever with a Teen Gaming Night with Xbox 360 and Wii games at 6:00 pm on Jan. 23, and a party that celebrates all things Sherlock on Thurs, Jan. 30, both at the Main Library. The Sherlock Holmes party includes a mystery to solve, snacks for the Great Detective and Watson, trivia, and prizes.

All teen events are for ages 12 to 18.

For more events at Rock Island Public Libraries, visit the library website at www.rockislandlibrary.org, follow the library on Facebook or Twitter, or call 309-732-7323.

Founded in 1872, the Rock Island Public Library serves the area through three locations, which include the Main, 30/31 and Southwest Branches, community outreach efforts, and online opportunities that provide resources to enhance personal achievement and stimulate the imagination.
