Hello!
John PrineSummer is in full gear and we're excited to share another round of downtown events and good news with you!  Legendary Americana songwriter, John Prine, will be joined by Iris DeMent for an intimate concert at the Adler Theatre this weekend.  Buy tickets here and grab a good seat while you can!

JuneteenthThe annual Juneteenth festival will be commemorating the end of slavery and celebrating cultural diversity in LeClaire Park on Saturday.  Admission is free, and families can enjoy educational programs and fun activities beginning at noon.  On Sunday, the LeClaire Park Bandshell will host a free performance featuring jazz tunes by Tewanta & Company.

AnimeYou might notice some pretty festive outfits and hair throughout downtown this weekend, because the QC Anime-zing! convention just kicked off at the RiverCenter!  If you have no clue what this is all about, embrace your inner geek and read this great QC-Times article summarizing the event.

All Star 2The River Bandits are back home to take on the Peoria Chiefs, and Modern Woodmen Park is also hosting the MWL 2011 All-Star Game and Home Run Derby!  All gentlemen dining at the Rhythm City dinner buffer on Father's Day will receive a free tool kit while supplies last.  Jordan Danielsen and Lee Blackmon will be playing free concerts at the casino this week, too.

3rd Sunday JazzRiver Music Experience's popular free outdoor concert series, Friday Live at 5, will feature Jim the Mule this week!  The 3rd Sunday Jazz workshop and matinee will present Classic Duets featuring Saalik Ziyad & Sarah Marie Young.  RME is also hosting Kidz Days and Live Lunch, as well as performances by Rod KinnyHello RamonaThe Challenge I KnowMike Cochrane, and more.

DocentPack a lunch and spend a Friday at the Figge drawing, painting, creating mixed media, and sculpting!  Tonight during Thursdays at the Figge, the docents will lead a discussion regarding the first ever docent-curated exhibition at the museum, Intriguing Images.  Attend a Downtown Davenport Architecture Tour or Fashionable Women in Art Tour, and check out the Figge's online silent auction, too.

FamilyCircleA national magazine, FamilyCircle, recently published an article highlighting a family in town that has made a very happy home here in Davenport.  Many of our best downtown assets are spoken very highly of the in the article, socheck it out!  Our newest restaurant, Bowls: Urban Eats, was also featured in a great article this week as well in the QC-Times.

RW&B LogoMark you calendar now for Red, White & Boom!  Join us on the downtown Davenport and Rock Island riverfront for FREE family fun Sunday, July 3rd and enjoy a huge fireworks display shot over the Mississippi!  There will be a ton of activities and live music including a performance by the QC-Symphony in Centennial Park.  It's going to be a blast!

See you downtown!

Davenport, IA - For 28 years, Volunteers for Symphony has been hosting the area's largest sale of gently used items to support the education programs of the Quad City Symphony Orchestra. This year's sale will be held at 902 West Kimberly Road in Davenport, between Godfather's Pizza and Shoe Carnival in the Village Shopping Center.

The event will kick off on Thursday, June 16, with a Preview Party from 6 PM to 9 PM. Admission to the party is $10 at the door and gives you the first opportunity to buy and choose from an enormous selection of housewares, clothing, sporting goods, furniture, books, records, antiques, and jewelry, to name just a few. People traditionally begin lining up in the afternoon, so be sure to arrive early to get your spot! Refreshments and live music will be provided while you shop.

Also available at the Preview Party will be a 1984 Buick Electra Park Avenue with a V8 engine and only 23,000 miles. Other amenities include power seats, power windows, air conditioning, AM/FM cassette radio. The car shows no rust and will be sold "as is" to the best offer at 8 PM on Thursday night.

The sale then continues on Friday, June 11, 7 AM to 6 PM, and Saturday, June 12, 7 AM to 4 PM. Both days are FREE ADMISSION. Saturday is half price day and features a $5 bag sale beginning at noon. To buy Preview Party tickets, call 563.322.QCSO (7276) or visit www.qcsymphony.com.

Rock Island, IL - Falling Up, a short film produced in the Quad Cities, will be screening on Sunday, June 26th, at 7pm at The Establishment Theatre, 220 19th Street in Rock Island.  Written and directed by Quad City natives Ryan Marzolph, John Hoffman and Louis Young, this locally-made independent movie features many Quad City landmarks as its setting.  Doors open at 6:30 and admission is just $5.

The evening will feature the hometown premiere of Falling Up, a science-fiction drama about a young man struggling with a technology which can record a person's every thought and feeling, and its implications on identity, memory, and humanity.  It will also include a special bonus presentation of the award-winning short film, The Responsibilities of Men, also made in the Quad Cities.  Both films will include an introduction by the filmmakers, and be followed by a discussion and Q&A with the audience.  There will also be original artworks on display and for sale by local artist Louis Young, which were used as props in the film.

QC RollersFlat track roller derby action will be in full force Saturday when the QC Rollers arrive at the RiverCenter for another bout, and we recommended participating in a drop-in hockey or soccer game at River's Edge if you'd like to get involved in your own athletic competition. Read the turf and ice schedules and discover dozens of the events at River's Edge!

Lipbone
Inventive singer/songwriter Lipbone Redding is hosting a FREEworkshop and show at River Music Experience.  Redding is known for his ability to use his vocals to sound exactly like a trombone; the phenomenon must be seen live to be truly appreciated! Manny LopezThe Manny Lopez Big Band will headline Music on the Levee on the LeClaire Park band shell on Sunday, but if you'd rather discuss a good science fiction book than dance on the riverfront, check out DAGOBAH at the library.  Don't forget to shop for fresh and local goods at the Freight House Farmers MarketTuesday and Saturday, too!
