Hello!

Broadway returns to the Adler Theater on Tuesday when the winner of nine Tony Awards, including "Best Musical" and the Pulitzer Prize for drama, A Chorus Line, hits the stage! Come experience the longest running American Broadway musical ever.  It's a musical for everyone who's ever had a dream and put it all on the line.

Head out to the River Music Experience's 5th Annual Winter Wine Experience presented by The RME Board of Directors this Saturday! This wine tasting event will feature samples of wines from numerous wine distributors and wineries.  Treat yourself at the Hotel Blackhawk tonight during their Five Course Wine Dinner at Bix Bistro highlighting wines from around the globe, too.  While you're there, congratulate the staff for the big news that the hotel will be joining the Marriott Autograph Collection of luxury hotels!
If beer is more your taste, check out the Great River Brewery's Beer In Review on Saturday at Bucktown! This is your opportunity to try every beer GRB made in 2012. Tickets include a commemorative tasting glass, appetizers, and tastings of all the beer.

Help benefit The Project of the Quad Cities by attending the 20th Annual Red Ribbon Dinner & Great Art Auction on Saturday at the RiverCenter. Prepare for an evening of first-class entertainment, a silent auction, and a gourmet dinner! Across the street, the QC Rollers will present the Track Avengers Season Opening Mixer! Monday, you can take part in a  celebration of the Presidential Inauguration, too.

Hooked on quilts? Head out to the Figge Art Museum for Quilters Appreciation Day tonight! Quilt Appraisals will also be available by Janette Dwyer.  Stick around for a discussion focusing on the myriad of ways in which we look at quilts during Tim Schiffers "Quilts as Art-or Not" lecture. And if you haven't checked out the exhibition Portrait of Maquoketa: The Dimensional View, make sure you do so before it closes Sunday at 5 p.m.
Enjoy a musical mix of reggae, rock & roll and many other influences when FireSale takes the stage Friday at the River Music Experience. If you're a River Roots Live fan, these folks may sound a bit familiar! If you're looking for more music opportunities, check out Sarah Allner and the Softache Friday for FREE and take pleasure in simple and enjoyable music full of heart.
Calling all middle school students! Now's your chance to attend the 2013 Quad Cities Youth Conference at the RiverCenter. Independent Scholars' Evenings:

" Rape as a  means of Political Power Play:"

Session 1:

The evening will develop around the presentation: I
" The Two Major Underlying  Causes For the abuse of women in India which need to be changed. "
Essay
By
Narveen Aryaputri. M.A. English Lit.; B.Ed.

Sub-title: The underlying causes for the frequency of rape: subjugation of women through the use of violence.

Rape has been used in extended history to subjugate people, both men and women.
What does this show of us, as civilized societies, when some scriptural texts clearly specify the humiliation of women? Rape, then, is not far behind

The question of subliminal influences of scriptural texts will be discussed.

The specific couplet demeaning women from the Bhagavad Gita, the philosophical scriptural text of India,  will be quoted and highlighted. Does the Gita need to be " 21st. C updated " with an American version eliminating the offensive couplet? Other examples from the scriptural texts of India will be quoted and highlighted in the essay.

The discussion of the status of women in India is the current focus of the evolution in thought and behavior that we have been highlighting at the Institute for quite some time now.  Ongoing focus continues as light challenges darkness on all fronts.  We at the Institute believe we are in a ' paradigm shift' as Thomas Kuhn would say.
This is an awakening and a strengthening and new beginnings occur.

About the author:
Narveen has her M.A. In English Literature with a minor in 20th. c American Literature and her Bachelors in Eduction.
She is an essayist.

Narveen is the President of The Institute for Cultural and Healing Traditions, Ltd. which sponsors:
