March 6, 2014...Finalists for the 2013 International Songwriting Competition (ISC) have now been announced. Recognized as the most prestigious international songwriting competition in the world, ISC awards excellence in the field of songwriting. Representing a broad variety of musical genres, finalists were selected from 124 countries worldwide. To view the list, go to

Winners will be announced at the end of April, 2014. Prizes include over $150,000 in cash, merchandise, and services (including a Grand Prize of $25,000 cash and $40,000 in additional prizes). ISC is open to amateur and professional songwriters from all over the world, including bands and solo performers. Winners are selected by a panel of high-profile recording artists and music industry executives.

In addition to the winners selected by the panel of judges, ISC opens voting to the public to pick their favorite song. The ISC People's Voice runs for the entire month of March and is open for voting at

Over the years ISC has become a benchmark for songwriting talent, and winning ISC can be a tremendous career booster. Winners have included artists such as Gotye, Kimbra, Gin Wigmore, The Band Perry, Passenger, Bastille, Kasey Chambers, Gregory Porter, Lindsey Stirling, and many more. Many winners have gone on to be signed to record label deals and have secured publishing deals, licensing deals, and distribution deals, in addition to getting more gigs, fans, and recognition.

Dear friends of the QCSO,

We thank those of you who came out to our concerts this past weekend to hear the world premiere of Rock Island Line from local composer Jacob Bancks, as well as Beethoven's Symphony No. 8 and Brahms' Symphony No. 2, all conducted by Maestro Mark Russell Smith.

The Chordbuster Barbershop Chorus and its quartets will present their 58th annual Holiday- in-Harmony show in the new Performing Arts Center at Bettendorf High School, Saturday, March 29th at 7:00 PM. The musical show, entitled “Sensational ‘60s”, will revisit many of the top hits from the 1960’s made famous by such groups as “the Beatles”, “the Beach Boys” and others. In addition, a Midwest acappella sensation, “After Hours” quartet, will also be featured on the show. “After Hours” have been three-time collegiate champions in the Illinois District as well as the Illinois District champions in 2010. Last July, they finished in 8th place in the annual Barbershop Harmony Society International competition. Also appearing in the show will be “the Bend of the River Chorus” of Rock Island, quartets from both choruses and an ensemble from Bettendorf High School.

The Performing Arts Center is located at 3333-18th Street in Bettendorf. Ticket prices are $15.00 for adults and $5.00 for students (K-12). Tickets can be obtained from members of either chorus or phone: (563) 340-8743 (day) or (309) 762-3117 (eve). Tickets will also be available at the door.

About the Barbershop Harmony Society: Founded in 1938 in Tulsa, Okla., the Barbershop Harmony Society, is the largest all-male singing organization in the world with just under 25,000 members, including 2,000 quartets in 800 chapters. There are also ten official foreign affiliates of the Society.

About barbershop-style a cappella music: Barbershop harmony is a uniquely American musical art form. It is known for its four-part harmony and the “expanded sound” created by its unique chord structure.

Skillet was formed in Memphis in 1996 and is led by husband and wife John and Korey Cooper. The band won rock song of the year from the Gospel Music Association, or GMA, in 2008 (for "Comatose") and this year (for "Sick of It").

Third Day was formed in Georgia and has won eight awards from the GMA. Its 11th studio album, "Miracle," was released in November 2012.

The Quad City Wind Ensemble’s (QCWE) Winter Concert will be performed on Sunday, March 16th at 3:00pm.  The concert will take place in the Allaert Auditorium at the Galvin Fine Arts Center on the St. Ambrose campus.  Admission in $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and FREE for all students through 12th grade.  See attached poster for details.

The QCWE was recently selected as performers at the Iowa Bandmasters Association (IBA) 2014 Conference in May.  The conference will take place May 15-17 at the Downtown Marriott in Des Moines, Iowa.

The IBA includes a membership of over 1,000, most of whom are directors of school bands.  It is one of the largest and most active of all state bandmaster organizations in the country.  Its driving force has kept good bands and good band music thriving in communities of all sizes through the state of Iowa.

The QCWE was founded in 1987 by Dr. Charles B. DCamp of St. Ambrose University, and has become one of the finest adult bands in the nation. In 2012 the QCWE was the Community Division winner of The American Prize in Band/Wind Ensemble Performance.  For additional information, please visit, or
