On October 23rd & 24th, from 7:00pm to 10:00pm, Davenport's Credit Island Park will become the HAUNTED ISLAND for Halloween. This first annual family event is tailored for all ages that love Halloween yet don't want a hard scare. There will be hay rack rides and concessions in the Lodge where you can warm up with hot chocolate, cider and snacks.

If you want to wear your costumes, make sure you dress warm, because there are 430 acres of surprises for everyone to enjoy.

A donation of $2.00 for youth and adults will make this an affordable family adventure.

Credit Island Park is located on West River Drive in Davenport, nestled along the Mississippi River between the Oscar Mayer plant and South Concord St.

GatheringswithPurpose.com giveaway will award $5,000 to a lucky volunteer and his or her cause!


Doing good for others just became even more rewarding. As many Americans face a holiday season of hardship in a struggling economy, Modern Woodmen of America is looking for those who have given the gift of time.

Families and friends who have volunteered together to meet a community need, raised money for a local cause or added a volunteer activity to a social gathering are eligible to win a grand prize totaling $5,000. Through Modern Woodmen’s Gatherings with Purpose Giveaway, one winner will receive a grand prize of $2,500 in cash, plus a $2,500 donation for the worthy cause described in a submitted story.

Stories can be submitted online at GatheringswithPurpose.com by 11:59 p.m. CST on Nov. 12, 2009. Submissions should be 400 words or less and describe who gathered, who was helped and how it touched lives.

Five finalists will be chosen from submissions entered online. Finalists’ stories will be posted, and the public will vote online for a favorite beginning Nov. 19. The Gathering with Purpose earning the most votes will win the grand prize - $2,500 for the entrant and $2,500 for the purpose described.

WQPT HOSTS TRIVIA NIGHT PDF Print E-mail

MOLINE, ILLINOIS – WQPT, Quad Cities PBS will host WQPT Trivia Night on Friday, November 13, 2009 at 6:00 p.m. with trivia starting at 7:00 p.m. at the SouthHall at Highland Park Bowl. There will be cash prizes beginning at $160 for First Place, $80 for Second Place and $40 for Third Place winners.  The Highland Park Bowl is located at 4204 Avenue of the Cities, Moline, Illinois by the Hy-Vee.

Trivia Night is a great way to prove how smart you are while having loads of fun with family and friends. Guests are encouraged to bring their own food and beverages are available through Highland Park Bowl. There will be 50/50 raffles and mulligans. Call WQPT at 309-796-2424 to reserve your table. Tables are $80 (8 people per table).

MONTICELLO, IA― On Sunday, October 11, 2009, the East Central Federation and Cedar Valley Callers Association will sponsor the 20th anniversary of the Annual Square Dance Benefit for Camp Courageous of Iowa.  The calling begins at 1:30 p.m. and ends at 4 p.m. in the main lodge at Camp Courageous.

Callers and cuers are invited from all over eastern Iowa and the surrounding areas. Dance clubs as well as individuals and couples are welcome to enjoy the afternoon dancing or just observing in the spacious camp lodge. Tours will be available for anyone interested in seeing all that camp offers including the camp train, the barn and the indoor swimming pool! Admission fee is a donation to camp. Participants are asked to bring along cookies, or a snack to share---beverages are provided.

Camp Courageous of Iowa is a year-round recreational and respite care facility for individuals with mental and physical disabilities, located near Monticello, Iowa. The camp was built and continues to operate on donations, without government support, without formal sponsorship, and without paid fundraisers. In 2008, the camp served over 5,000 campers with special needs.

CAMP COURAGEOUS PANCAKE BREAKFAST AND OPEN HOUSE SET FOR SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 27, 2009 PDF Print E-mail

MONTICELLO, IA --The annual Camp Courageous of Iowa Pancake Breakfast and Open House is set for Sunday, September  27, 2009  from 7:00 A.M. to 1:00  P.M.  In the lodge, pancakes will be prepared on six pancake grills to get everyone through the line quickly. The cost is $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for children under 12 for pancakes and sausage.

The Open House features include the New Olympic Training Floor in the pool, The Live Reenactment Train Robbery, at 9:00 AM, 9:45 AM, 10:45 AM, 11:45 AM at the Lions Train Depot. In the Sill barn performing free will be Dixie-Notes-Plus at 10:00 AM, 11:00 AM, 12 PM. Plus live WMT Broadcast from the camp’s main lodge by Honorary Board Member Leo Greco.

The Pancake Breakfast is also kick-off for sales of the Camp Courageous Fruitcakes. The fresh baked Fruitcakes are $10.00 each with no purchase limit.

Camp Courageous is celebrating their 35th anniversary. A DVD presentation about the camp, as well as new camp merchandise can be found in the camp’s main office. The camp began serving individuals with disabilities during the summer of 1974 with campers totaling 211. Today the camp is open year-round and the campers number over 5,100!  Camp Courageous continues to run on donations, without government support, without paid fund raisers, and without formal sponsorship.
