Beaudry Returns to Artistic Director at Timber Lake Playhouse PDF Print E-mail

Mount Carroll, IL--The Board of Directors of Timber Lake Playhouse has announced that current Executive Director, James Beaudry, will be returning to the position of Artistic Director for the theatre company’s 2015 summer season. The company is beginning a search for a new Executive Director, who will work with the board of directors, overseeing all business operations of the company which just completed its 53rd summer in Mount Carroll.

Tina Stretton, Manager of Theatre Operations announced her departure following a very successful summer season that critics said “sets the bar incredibly high.” Looking at the growth of the company, a task force made of board members, audience members, regional business leaders and consultants recommended an evolution in company leadership to help keep the artistic quality high while improving audience services and the financial stability of the institution. Beaudry is pleased with the upcoming changes.

“The Company is committed to positive change to manage our growth and improve audience experience. We’ve outgrown our own operations--which is a great problem to have--but it’s still a problem until it’s solved. I’m thrilled that the Board of Directors is taking steps to see TLP grow to new heights,” Beaudry said.

“It’s been a privilege to call TLP my artistic home for almost fifteen years. I’m excited to be able to focus all of my efforts once again on the creative work of the playhouse, so we can continue to offer the spectacular work that our audiences expect--with both inventive stagecraft like our production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and by bringing in the best talent from around the country as we did with Les Miserables.”

The Board of Directors hope to fill the new position by November 1, 2014 following a national and regional search. Information about the job and the company can be found at www.timberlakeplayhouse.org.

Timber Lake Playhouse serves 20,000 patrons a year in Northwest, Illinois, and is the oldest continuously operating summer theatre in the state. The company receives support from the Illinois Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts. 2015 marks the 40th anniversary of the theatre building. The original building was destroyed in a fire in 1974.

TLP’s 2015 summer season includes Hairspray, The Big Meal, Peter Pan, Greater Tuna, Big Fish and Big River. Children’s shows include Pinocchio and James And The Giant Peach. Season passes for all six shows are only $119 and are available now at 815-244-2035 or at www.timberlakeplayhouse.org. Gift certificates and group sales are available year round.

Ericka Nicole Malone Readies to Take ‘In Love with Tyrone’ to 42nd Street

Cincinnati, OH – September 15, 2014 – Playwright Ericka Nicole Malone is looking to take her popular Gospel Musical “In Love with Tyrone” to the Big Apple and is currently in talks with directors and producers to bring the touring show to Broadway for a run on the “Great White Way.” Malone has partnered with a famed New York City General Manager and Tony Award-winning Producer, who has produced past and current shows on Broadway.

Malone and her business team currently making plans to raise necessary capital, and are working to secure sponsorship support for the eyed $10 million Broadway production. Malone points to the high accomplishments of one of her personal favorites, “Motown: The Musical” which debuted in 2012 and is still running strong on Broadway and “A Raisin In The Sun” receiving four Tony Awards and a prestigious Theatre World Award this year.

“In Love with Tyrone” toured in 2012 and made stops throughout the Midwest and East Coast to rave reviews in 2012. The musical featured actress Robin Givens in the lead role as Danetta and Leon Robinson of The Five Heartbeats as lead of the male antagonist of the story, Sullivan. The musical is a story about a woman’s struggle to redefine herself after she is betrayed by her first love and best friend – her husband Tyrone. The urban contemporary, inspiring musical features eight original songs by Malone, including the hit single “Stay.”

“It’s amazing to be in a position where we’re even considering a run on Broadway,” Malone explained. “The show touches so many different types of audiences and the message is universal. It’s funny, it’s sad, it’s inspiring and uplifting and we’re thrilled to have an opportunity to bring this to arguably the largest stage in the world.”

And while additional funds for the proposed Broadway run are required, Malone says she has all the necessary pieces in place to deliver a winning performance at this level. “The show has been honed and perfected on the road, and the response from the audience and the media has been overwhelming. It’s a proven winner, and it’s time to bring it to life on Broadway,” Malone said.

About Ericka Nicole Malone

Greater Cincinnati resident Ericka Nicole Malone has written, directed and produced nine successful stage plays including “I Feel Like Praising Him” and “You Can’t Keep a Good Woman Down.” Her latest project and tenth stage play, “In Love With Tyrone” toured throughout 2012 and is eyeing a Broadway run. Spend your evening with one of today's most talented blues and roots vocalists, Janiva Magness, when she performs tonight at River Music Experience. If you'd prefer to be the star of the show, participate in the Songwriter's All-Original Open Mic event on Saturday. And, of course, what kind of Friday would it be without a little live music? Start your weekend with food and good company in the RME Courtyard during Friday Live at 5 featuring The Low Down tomorrow.

The time has come! Swing by the Figge Sunday for the unveiling of Liam O'Neill's Big Turnings wooden throne. Here's your chance to meet the artist and hear a presentation about O'Neill's work. While you're there, peruse the new Exhibition: Artists First, which opens Saturday and features the talents and achievements of working student artists. Become an artist of your own on Tuesday during a Figure Drawing class over at the Figge, too.

Farms, food, fermentation. Indulge in a little of each on Sunday by participating in the Quad Cities Culinary Ride. Round up those bikes and make your way to the Freight House Local Marketplace for a day of fun stops and delicious cuisine. Ride the full 40 mile route for a full-day adventure, or choose a 10 mile or 15 mile option to keep it shorter. Stops throughout the day include Nahant Marsh, the Quad City Food Forest, Augie Acres, and Happy Hollow U Pick.

Who doesn't love a good discount? Ragged Records hosts a Massive Discount Night tomorrow night with thousands of LPs and 45rpms for 50 CENTS. What's more? Trash Can Annie is offering 20% off all vintage gear at the same time. This after-hours event also features in-store performances by Centaur Noir and GOSH as an added bonus. Live music and great deals? You won't want to miss this.

Mustard lovers, unite! Me & Billy has partnered with locally-made Boetje's Mustard to bring you a night of mustard-filled greatness. Relish in an unlimited buffet of potato salad, glazed chicken wings, tacos, and more highlighting the unique mustardy taste you've grown to love. On Saturday, get your attire and your appetite ready to cheer the Hawkeyes on over at Me & Billy during their Iowa Hawkeyes Game Watch.

Speaking of Iowa sports, the Iowa Hawkeyes Baseball team comes to the Best Minor League Ballpark this Sunday to verse the Ontario Blue Jays. With $5 tickets, $2 beer, pop, and peanuts, amusement rides, and FREE parking, how could you pass this up? Did we mention you can even bring the pup along for Bark in the Park?

See you downtown!
