Voyage to "Book Island" this Summer with the

Rock Island Public Library!

Summer is here, and there's no better place for cool (and free) family fun than the activities of the Rock Island Public Library's "Voyage to Book Island" Summer Reading program. The library is running reading incentive programs for all ages - children, teens and adults - and hosting special programs, workshops and performances.

{mosimage}The Rock Island Library Children's Services Department is offering kids ages preschool to 6th grade plenty of chances to read books and earn prizes from the library's pirate's treasure case. Summer reading registration kicks off Tuesday, May 30, with the reading program lasting through Friday, July 14.  You may enter anytime between those dates. To enter, just pick up a reading log at any of the three Rock Island Library locations. For questions, please call 309-732-7360.

To make reading a family activity this summer, the library also offers reading incentives for teens and adults. To register for either the young adult or adult reading program, stop by any Rock Island Public Library. Winners will be drawn from entry slips submitted between May 30 to July 14.

Ongoing summer reading events include preschool storytimes at the 30/31 Branch with stories and games designed for children ages 3 to 5. The Tuesday storytimes are offered at 10:30 a.m. on June 6, 13, 20, and 27.

Younger children ages 18 months to 36 months can develop their language skills with the stories and games of  "Toddler Time" at the Southwest Branch Library, 9010 Ridgewood Road, Rock Island. The Thursday storytimes are offered at 9:30 a.m. on June 1, 8, 22 and 29.

No registration is required for either the pre-school or toddler time storytimes.

Additional summer reading activities include opportunities to sign up for special short-term programs. Enrollment is limited, with registration opening May 30. For details, please call 309-732-7360.
