Ducks Unlimited has worked with its partners to restore wetlands in those areas currently affected by Midwestern flooding. The Living Lakes Initiative in Iowa and Minnesota was established in response to the recognized value of free-flowing rivers and shallow lake complexes. Regardless of their size, depth, and often ephemeral nature, wetlands in watersheds provide important functions such as flood storage, nutrient and sediment filtering, fish and wildlife habitat, and recreational opportunity. To date, Duck Unlimited has conserved more than 60,467 wetland acres in Iowa. To learn more about wetland restoration, visit (http://www.ducks.org) and select "How we conserve."
