The 7th Annual Quad City Gospel Music Festival will be held on Friday, May 3, at the Adler Theatre starting at 6:30 p.m. The featured performer for the evening is gospel star Vickie Winans, and the evening will also feature the Golden Note Youth Awards and a performance by Darnell Williams.

Satterlee Featured at Chamber Music Quad Cities Event
Pianist Robert Satterlee will be featured in a trio that also includes Movses Pogossian (violin) and Kevin Schempf (clarinet) on Saturday in a Chamber Music Quad Cities concert at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 4, at the Unitarian Church in Davenport. The program features Beethoven’s Sonata in A Minor, Vigeland’s Nocturnes, Schubert’s Arpeggione Sonata, and Bartok’s Contrasts. Tickets are $10 and available at the door. Creed Cancels Tour, Concert at the Mark
Because of an auto accident involving singer Scott Stapp, Creed has canceled all its shows through May 31, including a concert scheduled for May 4 at The Mark of the Quad Cities. Refunds at the point of purchase will be available starting May 1 at noon.
Bent River Celebrate Home Brewing
People interested in not only drinking but brewing good beer should make a point to stop by Big Brew ‘02 on Saturday, May 4, at the Bent River Brewing Company Beer Garden, starting at 11 a.m. The event will feature local brewers and brewing lessons, and the opportunity to learn and talk about beer. The gathering is part of National Homebrew Day.
Young Playwrights Featured at Festival of Short Plays
High-school students typically have a flair for the dramatic, but these five have a gift for writing drama. The 2002 Quad-Cities Playwrights’ Festival will feature five 10-minute plays written by five different students and performed by members of Augustana College Theatre. The performance will be at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 5, in Augustana College’s Wallenberg Hall.
St. Ambrose Offers Free Concerts
St. Ambrose University will host a pair of interesting free concerts in the next few days. On Wednesday, May 1, at 7:30 p.m., the St. Ambrose University & Community Symphony will perform in the Galvin Fine Arts Center. The program will feature works from Sibelius, Mascagni, Vaughn-Williams, Occide Jeanty, and Suolahti, with Andrew Mast as the featured soloist on Vaughn-Williams’ Tuba Concerto. And on Friday, May 3, the St. Ambrose University Symphonic Band will perform at 7:30 p.m., also at Galvin. The program will feature a tribute to the victims of the September 11 terrorist attacks that was composed by Iowa native Andrew Boysen Jr. The program will also include the music of Jacob, Mahr, and The Lord of the Rings.
