Continuing its tradition of geurilla-style exhibits in non-traditional spaces, the Kanga Arts Cooperative hosted an opening evening of mixed- media art and sounds at the offices and retail location of Gemvision in downtown Davenport last Saturday. Local artists as well as artists from Milwuakee, Chicago, and Iowa City with QC roots were on hand with new works for display. Artists showing new works included Ben Estes, Jay Strickland, Katie Kiley, Jeremy Bessof, Kara Toal, Pete Schulte, Scott Landon, Steve Hemphill, Adam Burke, and Rachael Mullins. Works included mixed-media installations, paintings, photography, printmaking, sculptures, and video. Numerous works of affordable contemporary art were purchased by area collectors. Electronica was perfromed by Jeff Konrad, bass koto by Jeff Wichmann and live rock by the new permutation of Chrash. The evening even included an impromptu reunion set of Tripmaster Monkey sounds. The art will be on display for the public to view and/or purchase at 706 East River Drive through September 24.
