    The Community Foundation of the Great River Bend has announced a $50,000 dollar-for-dollar challenge grant to support the work of Humility of Mary Shelter. All donations for the match must be made to the Fund for the Homeless at the Community Foundation. Grant and matching dollars can then be accessed by Humility of Mary Shelter as needed.     Trinity's pastoral-care department is offering two ways to ease the pain for those struggling with holiday grief. Those wishing to remember a loved one who has died may write the name of that person on an ornament and hang it on a memorial tree located in any of the chapels or meditation rooms at all three Trinity hospital campuses. Additionally, all of the chapels have holiday-grief packets available that offer advice on working through the loss of a loved one.     Davenport Public Library's Off-Beat Independent film series will show Roberto Benigni's Life is Beautiful on Wednesday, December 16, at 6 p.m. at the Fairmount Branch Library (3000 North Fairmount Street).     YouthBuild Quad Cities and the Rock Island Housing Authority recently joined forces. While YouthBuild will remain a separate not-for-profit body with its own identity, the housing authority will administer the program in the same way it administers other grant-funded programs. YouthBuild will also retain its own advisory board that will continue to meet on a quarterly basis. YouthBuild participants enroll in an alternative school to earn their GEDs or high-school diplomas, and they gain job skills by working on affordable-housing projects for low-income families.

    The Iowa Department of Public Health has announced that as of December 14, all Iowans are eligible to receive an H1N1 flu vaccination. Public-health officials predict that another wave of H1N1 illness will occur in late January and February.     The Iowa National Guard's Davenport Army Aviation Support Facility will receive $2 million from the House Fiscal Year 2010 Military Construction Appropriations Bill. The money will be used to construct a 5,000-square-foot addition and an alteration to the existing Army Aviation Support Facility.

    The Rock Island Housing Authority's Neighborhood Network program has been recognized by the federal Department of Housing & Urban Development as a "Certified Neighborhood Network Center." The housing authority installed four fully equipped Neighborhood Network Center computer labs to provide computer and Internet access, customized computer training and certification, and communications, educational, and information-sharing tools to an otherwise underserved population. Locations include Spencer Towers, Sunset Heights, Manor Homes, and the Martin Luther King Community Center.

    On Monday, December 21, people experiencing homelessness, homeless service providers, faith-based organizations, and the general public will hold a candlelight vigil from 5:30 to 6 p.m. on the West Capitol Terrace in Des Moines.
