Bill Peiffer, Robert Wamer, and Steve Marriott in Yes, Virginia, There Is a Santa ClausThe kids cast in the Playcrafters Barn Theatre’s Yes, Virginia, There Is a Santa Claus are the best parts of the production, with Lena Slininger’s Virginia and the rest of the children lending the proceedings a bright innocence – even when some youths are bullying Virginia about her worn-out shoes – that provides a welcome warmth to the holiday tale. Unfortunately, the kids aren’t of central importance in this play that includes one of their names in the title.

Ben Klocke (center) and ensemble members in A Christmas Story: The MusicalThere's magic in the Circa '21 Dinner Playhouse's A Christmas Story: The Musical, most notably in the fantasy sequences and any scene involving the children's chorus. Pack a lunch, sit back, and dive in ... .

Gage McCalester, Adam Mohr, and Lilo Foster in The GuardianI was willing to give the Internet Players’ The Guardian a lot of leeway, accepting playwright Kevin Straus’ presentation for what it is: A morality tale of environmental responsibility. While watching Thursday’s performance, I could forgive Straus his plot holes and unnatural dialogue because the author managed to discuss responsible green living with no detectable attitudes of intellectual and moral superiority. And Straus had me ... until the interpretive dance in the middle of the second act.
