Cara Moretto, Cory Boughton, Jacqueline Keeley, Elizabeth Loos, Tristan Tapscott, and Theresa McGuirk in Boeing-BoeingThe Circa '21 Dinner Playhouse’s production of Boeing-Boeing is a colorful rendition of French playwright Marc Camoletti’s classic farce – and that’s just the set and costumes. Scenic designer Susan Holgersson’s and costume designer Gregory Hiatt’s combined use of bright primary and secondary colors is stunning, with Holgersson’s seven-door set providing delight even before the opening of this comedy's proverbial curtain.

Nate Karstens, Abbey Donohoe, and Ian Sodawasser in Young FrankensteinOn at least three occasions during Thursday’s preview performance, Quad City Music Guild’s Young Frankenstein achieved a transcendent silliness – the kind you get with stunning regularity in Mel Brooks’ film-spoof inspiration. Selma Blair and Ron Perlman in Hellboy II: The Golden Army[Yes, we're aware that this is the second week in a row in which the movie-review headline is some sort of "Superman" pun. Considering how many superhero movies have already been released this summer, we're impressed that we've kept the tally to merely two.]

HELLBOY II: THE GOLDEN ARMY

I found Guillermo del Toro's Hellboy II: The Golden Army considerably more entertaining than the writer/director's 2004 comic-book adaptation Hellboy, but let's keep in mind that I didn't really care for Hellboy much at all.

Anne Bancroft and Sigourney Weaver in HeartbreakersHEARTBREAKERS

Though the competition is fierce – The Insider, All That Jazz, maybe even Beetlejuice – I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a movie that made smoking look more repellant than David Mirkin’s comedy Heartbreakers.
