***

2.0 (not rated; Rave Cinemas Davenport 53rd 18 IMAX) – IMDb listing.

At Eternity's Gate (PG-13; FilmScene) –  IMDb listing.

Black Christmas (R; FilmScene: Wednesday, December 12, 10 p.m.) –  IMDb listing.

Bohemian Rhapsody (PG-13; Rave Cinemas Davenport 53rd 18 IMAX, Regal Moline Stadium 14, Marcus Sycamore Cinema) – The Freddie Mercury bio-pic is disappointingly traditional and in many ways bad, but it left me with such a movie-going high that I found its scores of problems, in the end, almost completely irrelevant. IMDb listing.

Border (R; FilmScene) – IMDb listing.

Boy Erased (R; Rave Cinemas Davenport 53rd 18 IMAX, Regal Moline Stadium 14, FilmScene) – The heart of this gay-conversion-therapy drama is in the right place, but while the well-acted results are undeniably touching, the experience feels too broadly designed for easy sympathy. IMDb listing.

But I'm a Cheerleader (R; FilmScene: Saturday, December 8, 11 p.m.) –  IMDb listing.

Buttons (not rated; Rave Cinemas Davenport 53rd 18 IMAX, Marcus Sycamore Cinema: Saturday, December 8, 12:55 p.m.) –  IMDb listing.

Creed II (PG-13; Rave Cinemas Davenport 53rd 18 IMAX, Regal Moline Stadium 14, Marcus Sycamore Cinema) – While the film feels almost lab-tested for uplift and tears, the emotions are evinced with honesty and dynamism; you can weep at the finale without feeling like a sap. IMDb listing.

Dr. Seuss' The Grinch (PG; Rave Cinemas Davenport 53rd 18 IMAX, Regal Moline Stadium 14, Marcus Sycamore Cinema) – The latest retelling of the good doctor's How the Grinch Stole Christmas has quite a few things going for it (Happy Holidays!), even if they're eventually outweighed by the things going against it. (Bah, Humbug!) IMDb listing.

Elf (PG; FilmScene: Saturday, December 8, 10 a.m., and Thursday, December 13, 3:30 p.m.) – After a funny first hour with an endearing Will Ferrell performance, this holiday comedy eventually digresses into predictable, cloying banality. IMDb listing.

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald (PG-13; Rave Cinemas Davenport 53rd 18 IMAX, Regal Moline Stadium 14, Marcus Sycamore Cinema) – This second installment in a planned five-part franchise is so wildly overstuffed with incident and exposition, and so distractingly focused on The Bigger Picture, that it barely gives us a chance to admire its many lovely fringe touches. IMDb listing.

Free Solo (PG-13; Rave Cinemas Davenport 53rd 18 IMAX) – If you can stomach the vertigo, or at least keep your personal terror at bay for 100 minutes, this rock-climbing documentary is absolutely enthralling. IMDb listing.

The Front Runner (R; Rave Cinemas Davenport 53rd 18 IMAX) – Jason Reitman's Gart Hart drama is a far more interesting piece of work than its meager attendance and indifferent reviews would suggest. IMDb listing.

George Takei's Allegiance: Encore (not rated; Rave Cinemas Davenport 53rd 18 IMAX, Marcus Sycamore Cinema: Tuesday, December 11, 7:30 p.m.) –  FathomEvents.com.

Green Book (PG-13; Rave Cinemas Davenport 53rd 18 IMAX) – While the film is kind of offensive as both drama and history, it's practically irresistible as an odd-couple buddy comedy thanks to the madly inspired pairing of Viggo Mortensen and Mahershala Ali. IMDb listing.

Instant Family (PG-13; Rave Cinemas Davenport 53rd 18 IMAX, Regal Moline Stadium 14, Marcus Sycamore Cinema) – This family comedy is shmaltzy, cornball, and relentlessly Hollywood, but when you have dinner-party guests like the ones gathered here, it doesn't much matter if the entree is overcooked so long as the conversation keeps flowing. IMDb listing.

Jerusalem (not rated; Putnam Museum) – As a means of generating discussion among interfaith viewers, and perhaps especially as an introduction to the city for young audiences, Daniel Ferguson's work might prove unmissable. IMDb listing.

Jim Henson's Holiday Special (not rated; Rave Cinemas Davenport 53rd 18 IMAX, Marcus Sycamore Cinema: Monday, December 10) –  FathomEvents.com.

Kedi (not rated; FilmScene: Tuesday, December 11, 5 p.m.) –  IMDb listing.

Miracle on 34th Street (not rated; Marcus Sycamore Cinema) –  IMDb listing.

Mirai (PG; Rave Cinemas Davenport 53rd 18 IMAX, Marcus Sycamore Cinema: Saturday, December 8, 12:55 p.m.) – IMDb listing.

National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation (PG-13; Marcus Sycamore Cinema) –  IMDb listing.

National Parks Adventure (not rated; Putnam Museum) – This expectedly gorgeous endeavor is also unexpectedly, even thrillingly, varied in presentation: sensationally informative, joyfully inspiring, and even laugh-out-loud funny. IMDb listing.

Never-Ending Man: Hayao Miyazaki (not rated; Rave Cinemas Davenport 53rd 18 IMAX, Marcus Sycamore Cinema: Thursday, December 13, 7:30 p.m.) –  IMDb listing.

The Nutcracker & the Four Realms (PG; Rave Cinemas Davenport 53rd 18 IMAX, Regal Moline Stadium 14) – An irritating, mostly charmless experience that's like Tchaikovsky with ADD. IMDb listing.

Oceans: Our Blue Planet 3D (not rated; Putnam Museum) – Given this edu-doc's employment of state-of-the-art recording equipment, the underwater sounds are just as delightfully insane as the sights. Putnam.org.

Once Upon a Deadpool: PG-13 Deadpool 2 (PG-13; Rave Cinemas Davenport 53rd 18 IMAX, Regal Moline Stadium 14, Marcus Sycamore Cinema: opens Wednesday, December 12) – This comic-book continuation has a lot of the same problems that 2016's original did, but a lack of legitimately hilarious material is hardly among them. IMDb listing.

Overlord (R; Rave Cinemas Davenport 53rd 18 IMAX) – This effective horror thriller suggests what we'd get if Spielberg re-fashioned Saving Private Ryan as Dawn of the Dead. IMDb listing.

The Polar Express (G; Marcus Sycamore Cinema) – After a charming opening five minutes, this holiday "classic" becomes a grating blend of the hyperactive and the maudlin. IMDb listing.

The Possession of Hannah Grace (R; Rave Cinemas Davenport 53rd 18 IMAX, Regal Moline Stadium 14, Marcus Sycamore Cinema) – This horror flick is fair-to-middling overall, but boasts a number of little things worthy of gratitude. IMDb listing.

Ralph Breaks the Internet (PG; Rave Cinemas Davenport 53rd 18 IMAX, Regal Moline Stadium 14, Marcus Sycamore Cinema) – This smart and funny animated sequel  delivers astute, incisive pokes at 'net culture, and does so with both spectacular wit and uneasy twinges of recognition. IMDb listing.

Robin Hood (PG-13; Rave Cinemas Davenport 53rd 18 IMAX, Regal Moline Stadium 14, Marcus Syacmore Cinema) – A  desperately unnecessary origin saga so lacking in personality that I was praying for one of its whizzing arrows to blast through the fourth wall and sever my cerebral cortex. IMDb listing.

Schindler's List: 25th Anniversary (R; Rave Cinemas Davenport 53rd 18 IMAX) –  IMDb listing.

A Star Is Born (R; Rave Cinemas Davenport 53rd 18 IMAX, Regal Moline Stadium 14) – With Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga giving instantly iconic performances, the third American remake of this timeless show-biz melodrama is a tearjerker that leaves you less wiped out than electrified. IMDb listing.

Volcanoes: The Fires of Creation (not rated; Putnam Museum) – As fascinating as the narration is, I might've left this edu-doc just as satisfied if it were a silent film, or at least one wholly free of words, given that the 3D sights on display left me less fascinated than thunderstruck. IMDb listing.

White Christmas (not rated; Rave Cinemas Davenport 53rd 18 IMAX, Marcus Sycamore Cinema: Sunday, December 9, and Wednesday, December 12) – IMDb listing.

Widows (R; Rave Cinemas Davenport 53rd 18 IMAX, Regal Moline Stadium 14) – Steve McQueen's latest might just satisfy both fans of the director's grave, unsparing, almost completely humorless works and those who just want to enjoy a tougher-minded Ocean's 8 with Viola Davis in the Sandra Bullock role. IMDb listing.

The Wife (R; Regal Moline Stadium 14, Marcus Sycamore Cinema) – In director Björn Runge's quietly intense marital drama, Glenn Close is like a simmering tea kettle that takes nearly an hour-and-a-half to reach full boil. IMDb listing.

Wild Africa 3D (not rated; Putnam Museum) – IMDb listing.
