The traditional depiction of Lady Justice is a woman wearing a blindfold to demonstrate impartiality. In her right hand she wields a sword (symbolizing swift punishment for the guilty). Her left arm holds aloft a scale to weigh the opposing sides' cases — publicly, for all to see.

Over time, American judges have become increasingly inclined to demand that the public itself wear the blindfold, and that the opposing parties wear gags.

MOLINE, IL (February 12, 2019) — Child abuse happens in all communities, in all neighborhoods, and has the potential to occur in any household. Every 10 seconds, a child in the United States experiences abuse. Every day, between four and seven children will die as a result of abuse. Half of these children experience abuse before their fifth birthday, with the greatest risk occurring during the first year of life.

QUINCY, ILLINOIS (February 12, 2019) — Quincy University released its Dean's List for the Fall 2018 semester. Honorees must earn a semester grade point average of at least 3.5 (on a 4.0 scale) to be included in the biannual Dean's List. In total, 335 students received the honor during the Fall 2018 semester.
