“I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change" at the Black Box Theatre -- October 9 through 24.

Friday, October 9, through Saturday, October 24

The Black Box Theatre, 1623 Fifth Avenue, Moline IL

With Variety magazine calling the musical "smartly conceived" and boasting "catchy tunes and witty lyrics," the tune-filled romantic comedy I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change makes its debut at Moline's Black Box Theatre October 9 through 24, Gannett Newspapers raving that the original production was "hilarious ... the most entertaining show on or off Broadway."

This celebration of the mating game takes on the truths and myths behind that contemporary conundrum know as “the relationship.” Through sketches and songs, the first act of I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change explores the journey from dating and waiting to love and marriage. Act II, meanwhile, reveals the agonies and triumphs of in-laws and newborns, trips in the family car, and pick-up techniques of the geriatric set. This hilarious revue pays tribute to those who have loved and lost, to those who have fallen on their face at the portal of romance, and to anyone who has ever dared to ask, “Say, what are you doing Saturday night?”

Its delightful songs including "Better Things to Do," "Men Who Talk and the Women Who Pretend They’re Listening," "I’ll Call You Soon (Yeah, Sure)," "Always a Bridesmaid," "Sex and the Married Couple," and "Funerals Are for Dating," I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change boasts a book and lyrics by Joe DiPietro and a score by Jimmy Roberts. It stands as the second-longest running off-Broadway musical of the all, and was nominated for the Outer Critics Circle Award as Outstanding Off-Broadway musical in 1997.

Serving as director and chief designer for I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change is Black Box Theatre co-founder David Miller, whose previous musicals for the venue have included Rock of Ages, Baby, and Stephen Sondheim's Assassins. The show's music direction is provided by Randin Joy, and the cast features the talents of Abby Bastian and Tommy Ratkiewicz (most recently seen in the Black Box's hit Come from Away), Chris Tracy, Kat Jecklin, Tyler Henning, and Kirsten Sindelar.

I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change runs in Moline from October 9 through 24, with performances Fridays, Saturdays, and Thursday, October 22 at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. Admission is $20, and more information and tickets are available by calling (563)284-2350 and visiting TheBlackBoxTheatre.com.
