Ron Paul Draws Big Crowds on Second of Two-Day Trip to Iowa

Four town hall meetings yield a sizable outpouring of committed and new supporters

ANKENY, Iowa - 2012 Republican Presidential candidate Ron Paul again attracted big crowds at all four of his events in Eastern Iowa, closing out a two-day trip before he returns for a three-day trip to Central and Western Iowa next week.

Crowds of this size would be uncommon had the 12-term Congressman from Texas not done this in Iowa just yesterday.  Or, had he not done so previously at Youth for Ron Paul events in Iowa that recently gained national media coverage.

Paul's Jackson County Town Hall Meeting in Maquoketa attracted more than 200 people, noteworthy for the small venue, town, and county in which it occurred.  The Dubuque Town Hall Meeting at the Grand River Center saw more than 350 people.  The Delaware County Town Hall Meeting on the Delaware County Fairgrounds netted more than 150, exceptional for a small community.  Finally, Ron Paul's Cedar Rapids Town Hall Meeting at The Hotel at Kirkwood Center - expected to be a large event - exceeded turnout estimates with more than 350 supporters.

Latest families valuing education choice hail from Polk, Warren and Hancock counties
ANKENY, Iowa - The Ron Paul 2012 Presidential campaign announced today additions to its active "Homeschoolers for Ron Paul" nationwide coalition.  The new members hail from Polk, Warren, and Hancock counties, all Iowa.

As voters further appreciate Dr. Paul's principled stance on education choice, momentum for the Iowa campaign organization continues.  Below find statements of support from the following new members and member families.

In Case You Missed It:  Bachmann, Huntsman and Santorum #Fail to Appear on Virginia Ballot
Stringent ballot access requirements, yes - but, um, this is the presidential election!
LAKE JACKSON, Texas - National media and political pundits are reporting that Michele Bachmann, Jon Huntsman, and Rick Santorum failed to file the signatures necessary to appear on the Virginia ballot.

This means that on March 6, 2012 or Super Tuesday, the day of the Virginia primary, supporters of the three presidential aspirants residing in the Commonwealth will be denied the opportunity to cast their vote for them.

Michele Bachmann, Jon Huntsman and Rick Santorum all failed to meet the requirements for the Virginia ballot, according to the state's Board of Elections.

Of the 2012 GOP hopefuls, just Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich, Ron Paul and Rick Perry submitted the required number of signatures today.

The state's primary, which is slated for Super Tuesday on March 6, has some of the most stringent ballot access requirements in the country: 10,000 signatures from registered Virginia voters, including 400 from each of the state's 11 congressional districts. And the elections board recommends getting at least 1.5 times the number of required signatures ? 15,000 for presidential candidates ? in case any of them are found to be invalid.

Mitt Romney, who filed Tuesday, was the only candidate to get 1.5 times the required number of signatures: he submitted a total of 16,026 signatures, according to Chris Piper of the Virginia State Board of Elections.

Paul filed today with 14,361 signatures, Perry had 11,911 and Gingrich had 11,050.

The Gingrich campaign announced yesterday, after "scrambling" to organize in the state, that it had reached the required number of signatures.

The state parties will certify the signatures from each of the candidates and decide by Dec. 27 whether the four GOP candidates are eligible to appear on the ballot, Piper said.

Ron Paul to Campaign in Central and Western Iowa
Three-day visit to include town hall meetings and a major 'Salute to Veterans Rally' in Des Moines
ANKENY, Iowa - 2012 Republican Presidential candidate Ron Paul will campaign in Iowa for three days in the run-up to the January 3, 2012 Iowa Caucus.

ANKENY, Iowa - 2012 Republican Presidential candidate Ron Paul was endorsed today by the Rev. Christopher J. Neuendorf, pastor of Holy Cross Evangelical Lutheran Church in Davenport.

"Ron Paul is the clear choice to me as a pastor on at least three fronts: his stance on issues, his personal character, and his electability. 

"When it comes to issues such as abortion, same-sex marriage, foreign policy, and economics, Ron Paul's positions favor respect for human life, fundamental morality, and overall prosperity for the United States and our neighbors throughout the world.  

"In the realm of character, while other candidates pay lip service to fairly good positions on the issues, none exhibits the consistency, honesty, and determination of Ron Paul.

"As for electability, since many of his positions, particularly on foreign wars, appeal to a broad base beyond the confines of the Republican Party, Ron Paul stands the best chance of defeating President Barack Obama in 2012," said Rev. Neuendorf.

In making his endorsement, the Rev. mentioned that he was endorsing Ron Paul as an individual, not on behalf of the Holy Cross congregation.  As a member congregation of The Lutheran Church?Missouri Synod, the church publicly opposes abortion and same-sex marriage, but its individual members are not required, expected, or even encouraged to vote for a particular candidate.  That remains a matter of individual conscience.

Huge turnout at four town hall meetings in Eastern Iowa's rural areas and large population centers

Paul's Lee County event, held in Fort Madison, yielded 225 people.  His noon Henry County event in Mount Pleasant and his Washington County event in Washington attracted more than 200 people each.  Paul's Quad Cities event in Bettendorf yielded a remarkable more than 800 people.

Ron Paul Campaign Announces Internet and TV Ad Featuring

Sen. Rand PaulPresidential candidate's son, a U.S. Senator, connects tea party values with dad's lifelong aims

LAKE JACKSON, Texas - The Ron Paul 2012 Presidential campaign unveiled today a new Christmas-themed ad featuring U.S. Senator Rand Paul (R-KY), son of presidential candidate Dr. Ron Paul.

The ad has already been emailed to the Pauls' supporters and is available on YouTube.  The ad will run on television in the key early voting states of Iowa and New Hampshire December 24th and 25th, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

The 30-second ad features the junior Senator from the Commonwealth of Kentucky talking about his father flatteringly, as most sons would.  And yet, the praise he heaps upon his father is uncommon because of the Pauls' stature as preeminent antiestablishment political leaders in areas such as fiscal restraint and constitutionality. 

Sen. Paul connects the principles of the tea party movement that elected him to an unexpected landslide victory with his father's lifelong commitment to that same doctrine.  These are values the senator describes as actions against politicians that support more debt, bigger government, government bailouts, and establishment priorities. 

The ad begins with the scene-setting, "I'm Rand Paul.  My father taught me the value of commitment to faith, family and our Constitution."  From there, with a Christmas tree as backdrop, Sen. Paul puts forth the idea that his father the senior Dr. Paul is closely aligned with the tea party.

Both Pauls are by trade medical doctors, with the senior Dr. Paul a prolific OB-GYN who personally delivered more than 4,000 babies and the junior Dr. Paul an accomplished eye surgeon.

"He's always stayed true to his principles and convictions.  He won't falter, he won't bend, and he will restore what made America great," Sen. Paul concludes before the customary "God bless America," and wishing viewers a Merry Christmas.

Franklin County pastor calls Dr. Paul the candidate who is "most in conformity with biblical principles."

Ron Paul Campaign Releases New Pro-life Ad Featuring Some of His Former Patients
Women patients attest to Dr. Paul's character, professionalism and commitment to life
LAKE JACKSON, Texas - The Ron Paul 2012 Presidential campaign unveiled its new prolife ad "Always on the Right Path" featuring four former patients of Dr. Paul's medical practice in Brazoria County, Texas.

Dr. Paul, an Air Force flight surgeon and 12-term Congressman from Texas, is by trade an accomplished OB-GYN who personally delivered more than 4,000 babies.

The 60-second online ad will be shared via email and on websites with conservative, prolife, and values voter audiences beginning today.  It begins with a narrator describing Dr. Paul as a prolific doctor, a man of faith, and a man committed to protecting life.  However, the moving testimonials of his patients are what the ad features most prominently - and most effectively.

In making the endorsement, Rev. Preus mentioned that he was not speaking on behalf of Trinity Lutheran congregants, but rather he was doing so "as an American, and as a Christian."

Ron Paul Iowa Team Touts New 'Small Businesses for Ron Paul'

ANKENY, Iowa - The Ron Paul 2012 Presidential campaign announced today new members of its active 'Small Businesses for Ron Paul' nationwide coalition.  New members hail from Dallas, Davis, Polk, and Story counties, all Iowa.

Below are the statements of new coalition members who agree with Dr. Paul's position that restoring free markets is the best way to revitalize Main Street and encourage job creation.

Will hold eight town hall meetings over two days in large population centers and rural areas
ANKENY, Iowa - 2012 Republican Presidential candidate Ron Paul will visit eastern Iowa for a series of town hall meetings as the campaign draws nearer to the pivotal 2012 Iowa Caucus.

The visit will take place on Wednesday and Thursday, December 21st and 22nd.  All eight of Dr. Paul's events this time around are town hall meetings featuring a speech, followed by a question and answer session.

Ron Paul Campaign Releases Updated TV Ad 'The One' Ad argues that Paul and his 'Plan to Restore America' will remedy Washington's ills
LAKE JACKSON, Texas - The Ron Paul 2012 Presidential campaign unveiled an updated version of its path-breaking television ad "The One," this time arguing that a Paul presidency and its fiscal plan will counteract Washington afflictions while ushering in economic prosperity.

The 60-second ad, presented in a movie trailer style, will run on broadcast and cable television in Iowa and New Hampshire beginning today.  The ad points the finger of blame at Washington - "a lost city" - focusing on "failed policies, failed leadership...smooth talking politicians, insider deals, games of he said-she said, rhetoric, and division." 

The ad then presents Ron Paul as the only Republican presidential candidate that stands tall against such a poisonous atmosphere, instead "voting against every tax increase, every unbalanced budget, every time."  The ad touts provisions of Ron Paul's "Plan to Restore America" including cutting $1 trillion in year one of a Paul presidency, eliminating government waste, and achieving a balanced federal budget.

Ron Paul Iowa Team Welcomes Additional 'Homeschoolers for Ron Paul' Members
Latest families who value education choice reside in Polk, Kossuth and Pottawattamie counties
ANKENY, Iowa - The Ron Paul 2012 Presidential campaign welcomed new additions to its already-substantial "Homeschoolers for Ron Paul" nationwide coalition.  The new additions hail from Polk, Kossuth, and Pottawattamie counties, all Iowa.

The continued growth and geographic diversity establishes Ron Paul as a candidate with strong support among Iowa's homeschooling families and organizations.  Furthermore, it illustrates that Dr. Paul might receive tangible support for his principled positions on education freedom, as the 12-term Congressman from Texas seeks a strong top-three showing in the January 3rd Iowa Caucus.

A smattering of the latest "Homeschoolers for Ron Paul" members have stepped forward with the following public statements of support:

Maria Maher of Ankeny is a mother of nine children ages four to 26 years of age.  After the passing of her husband, she goes the extra mile to continue her 18-year tradition of homeschooling her children but sees it as welcome effort. 

"The government is constantly stripping parents of basic rights, assuming these rights as their own.  I treasure my freedom to do what is right and my liberty to teach my children virtue.  I don't want some governmental agency telling me or my children what is right and wrong, as this has always been up to the parents," said Ms. Maher.

ANKENY, Iowa - Air Force veteran and 2012 Republican Presidential candidate Ron Paul will hold a major veterans rally in Des Moines, demonstrating his commitment to veterans, active-duty military men and women, and their families.

Citing Jefferson, Dr. Paul calls federal mandate forcing private institutions to cover contraceptives "sinful and tyrannical"
LAKE JACKSON, Texas - The Ron Paul 2012 Presidential campaign released the following statement concerning the Becket Fund for Religious Liberties lawsuit filed on behalf of Belmont Abbey College, located in North Carolina.  Below please find comments from Congressman Paul:

"I applaud the Becket Fund for coming to the defense of Belmont Abbey College, a Catholic school founded by Benedictine monks.  Federal bureaucrats are using their powers to try to force this traditional Catholic school to cover contraceptives, defined to include drugs such as RU-486, as part of their group health care plan.

"Thomas Jefferson said it was 'sinful and tyrannical' to 'compel a man to furnish contributions of money for the propagation of opinions which he disbelieves and abhors.'  Forcing private religious institutions to cover RU-486 certainly falls within Jefferson's definition of sinful and tyrannical. 

"Unlike other candidates, I have fought against the federal promotion, funding, and mandating of contraceptives and abortion my entire political career.  As President, I will use my constitutional authority to stop federal bureaucrats from forcing any institution to violate their sacred moral and religious beliefs by making them provide coverage for contraceptives in their health insurance plan."

Oleson represents the second-most populous county in Iowa and has many Republican, civic affiliations
ANKENY, Iowa - The Ron Paul 2012 Presidential campaign announced today that Linn County Supervisor Brent Oleson has endorsed Ron Paul for the presidency.

Attracted to Congressman Paul's commitment, character, and courage Mr. Oleson said, "Ron Paul has the principals and conviction necessary to solve our national budget woes.  With our national debt over $14 trillion, the spending by Washington D.C. continues to mortgage the fruits of our labor to fund programs we don't need and can't afford.  Ron Paul puts people before politics and will work to ensure that our children and grandchildren inherit a strong economy and prosperous nation, not one saddled by debt."

Brent Oleson is an attorney residing in Marion, Iowa with his two children.  For many years, he has been an active participant in Iowa politics - serving two terms on the Republican Party of Iowa's State Central Committee, six terms on the Linn County Central Committee, and as a Republican Party of Iowa Platform Committee Member.

Franklin County Tea Party co-founder and county GOP vice chair calls Paul "honest and consistent"
ANKENY, Iowa - The Ron Paul 2012 Presidential campaign announced today that Mayor-Elect Shawn Dietz of the City of Hampton, located in Franklin County, has endorsed Ron Paul for the presidency.

In making his endorsement, the mayor-elect cited Paul's 'Plan to Restore America,' as well as a full complement of issue stances that distinguish the 12-term Congressman from Texas from other Republican competitors.

"We're pleased that incoming Mayor Dietz has endorsed Ron Paul, and has done so with such conviction," said Ron Paul 2012 Iowa Chairman Drew Ivers, referring to the mayor-elect's attached letter.  "Endorsements by Iowa's political, faith and civic leaders are what promise to propel us to a strong top-three showing in the caucus."
