Horn Hang with Marc Zyla at Davenport's First Presbyterian Church -- May 11.

Saturday, May 11, 10 a.m.

First Presbyterian Church, 1702 Iowa Street, Davenport IA

Hosted by the Quad City Symphony Orchestra, the Horn Hang with Marc Zyla will find the ensemble's principal horn player meeting fellow horn players of all ages for an exciting hour of sight-reading ensemble music for their instruments, with coffee, music, and good times scheduled for May 11 at Davenport's First Presbyterian Church.

A member of the Quad City Symphony Orchestra since 2010, Zyla earned a bachelor’s degree in Musical Arts from West Virginia University, a master’s degree in Horn Performance from Carnegie Mellon University, and has completed doctoral course work in Horn Performance and Literature at the University of Illinois. In addition to his continuing tenure with the symphony as Principal Horn, Zyla is a private lesson instructor through the organization, and in May of 2022, he joined the Quad Cities' NPR station WVIK as the Director of Community Engagement.

Prior to his position with WVIK, Zyla had been the Director of Education and Community Engagement with the Quad City Symphony Orchestra, and as stated at WVIK.org, "Zyla believes that there is something for everyone in public radio and brings passion and creativity to his position as Director of Community Engagement. During the COVID-19 pandemic Zyla launched, Because…, a podcast based on a children’s book by Mo Willems in which he serves as the host and producer. Aside from his work at WVIK, Zyla is a lover of the outdoors, and you’ll frequently see him kayaking the rivers of the Quad Cities or rafting the whitewater of southern West Virginia. Zyla resides in Rock Island with his lovely wife, Rachel, and their pack of rescue animals."

The Horn Hang with Marc Zyla takes place at Davenport's First Presbyterian Church 11 a.m. on May 11, with admission to the 11 a.m. event $25 per adult and free for students (with a suggested $10 fee). Registration is due by May 6, and more information is available by contacting the Quad City Symphony Orchestra at (563)322-0931 and QCSO.org.
