The new Limp Bizkit album, Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavored Water, is due this coming Tuesday on the Flip/Interscope label and features a funky Willie Wonka & the Chocolate Factory-esque twist. Purchasers might be lucky enough to find a randomly inserted "golden ticket" and autographed gold CD inside a handful of the first pressing of discs.
Some of the prizes to be exchanged for these "golden tickets" include a Paul Reed Smith guitar or lifetime backstage pass. A "lifetime" backstage pass? Oomph - that could get ugly. The band's Anger Management Tour (scheduled to stop at The MARK on November 5) kicks off October 19 with Eminem, Xzibit, DMX, and Papa Roach. ... The third album from Johnny Cash with producer Rick Rubin hits store shelves this Tuesday. Entitled American III: Solitary Man, the American/Columbia Records set promises guest appearances by Tom Petty, Merle Haggard, Sheryl Crow, and Palace Music's Will Oldham. My mind is reeling in anticipation of the material he covers on this one, including U2's "One," Nick Cave's "The Mercy Seat," and Oldham's "I See a Darkness." ... Speaking of curious covers, the just-released live solo album from Crash Test Dummy vocalist Brad Roberts features a head-wagging list of songs put under the knife of his amazingly deep baritone bass. Recorded in Toronto in 1999, the V2 Records album - Crash Test Dude - tries these stunners on for size: ZZ Top's "La Grange," Kim Carnes' "Bette Davis Eyes," Toni Braxton's "Un-Break My Heart," and Britney Spears' "Baby One More Time." ... Decca Records has just released Riders On the Storm: The Doors Concerto, the new classical-meets-rock project from composer and arranger Jaz Coleman. Fully endorsed by the three surviving members of the band, this nine-track features virtuoso violinist Nigel Kennedy on all the tracks. ... Fans of Peter Gabriel can look forward to his first new music in quite some time to show up on the upcoming soundtrack to the film Red Planet. The single "The Tower that Ate People" is found alongside music from William Orbit, a new remix by Different Gears of The Police's "When the World Is Running Down (You Can't Go Wrong)," and an original score by Graeme Revell. The Ark 21 Records release is set for October 31.
