· Details of the upcoming Tori Amos album are out, and as a connoisseur of covers, I'm psyched: The entire album is a covers affair. Strange Little Girls is due September 18 and reveals a bit of the pixie dust beneath her scarlet cap. Like being at a party and perusing someone's record collection, one might assume the song selections tell a bit about her influences. But, "97 Bonnie & Clyde" by Eminem from his The Slim Shady LP set? Yes, friend, that and many more "I've got to hear that" interpretations such as 10cc's 1975 FM radio staple "I 'm Not in Love," the Boomtown Rats' pre-Columbine teen-with-a-gun "I Don't Like Mondays," The Beatles' "Happiness Is A Warm Gun" from the White Album, Neil Young's "Heart of Gold" from his 1972 Harvest album, Joe Jackson's "Real Men" from his classic Night & Day LP from 1982, Lloyd Cole & The Commotions' "Rattlesnakes," "New Age" by the Velvet Underground, Slayer's "Raining Blood," and Tom Waits' "Time." Whew! The album's title is taken from the name of the 1982 Stranglers song she covers.

· Speaking of covers, Teenbeat Records' bossanova-beat band True Love Always has just released a new CD collection featuring material from its previous five singles and rarities such as its take on Earth, Wind & Fire's "September."

· The long-awaited four-CD box set from Buffalo Springfield is due this Tuesday on the Rhino label. The monster undertaking by producer and compiler Neil Young features 88 tracks - 36 of which are rare demos and re-mixes. The fourth disc in the set contains the band's first two albums - Buffalo Springfield and Buffalo Springfield Again - newly re-mastered and in their entirety. Now if we can only get Mr. Young to finally release on CD his long-out-of-print albums such as On the Beach and American Stars 'n' Bars.

· Fans of DJ electronica will find a golden nugget of house music issued domestically this week by the Leaf/Bubblecore label. Originally out last year in Japan, Susumu Yokota's Sakura album was named Electronic Album of the Year by Wire magazine but was previously hard to find stateside.

· Electromatrix Records has announced that later this year it will release the first electronica album created to utilize the 5.1 DVD surround-sound technology that is finding its way into more and more living rooms these days. The compilation, entitled Awaken, uses six individual audio channels as a paint box for some serious knob-twisting by artists Rabbit in the Moon, Divine Styler, King Britt, and Poet Name Life. A regular CD version will also be available.
