WASHINGTON - U.S. Rep. Cheri Bustos and Senators Dick Durbin and Tammy Duckworth today announced $3,294,751 in federal funding for the Quad City International Airport from the U.S. Department of Transportation.

$2,974,751 of the funding will pay for the rehabilitation of the lighting systems for Runway 9/27 and Taxiway H that have both reached the end of their useful lives and require rehabilitation to enhance safe airfield operations during low visibility conditions. The additional $320,000 will fund an update to the existing airport master plan study to show current and future needs of the airport.

“By making investments in the Quad City International Airport, we’re helping generate a stronger economic environment in our community,” said Bustos. “For any business to succeed, it needs access to quality and reliable transportation options. That's why it's so important to continue fighting to deliver these job-creating federal dollars to improve the Quad City International Airport. I want to thank Senators Durbin and Duckworth for working with us to make the Quad-Cities a great place to live, work and raise a family.”

“Quad City International Airport is a critical transportation link for central Illinois, and this funding will help the airport continue to serve residents and visitors safely, securely, and efficiently,” said Durbin. “I will continue working with Senator Duckworth and Congresswoman Bustos to invest in the growth of the airport and the Quad Cities region.”

“As a pilot, I know how important all airports are to communities across the state of Illinois,” said Duckworth. “This funding will help ensure the Quad City International Airport has the resources it needs to make necessary improvements and support local job growth. I look forward to continuing my work with Senator Durbin and Congresswoman Bustos to improve Illinois’s airports and support economic development throughout the region.”
