Last week, I was proud to reintroduce my bipartisan legislation to cut Members’ of Congress pay for the first time in eight decades. The Congressional Halt in Pay Increases (CHIP IN) and Cut Congressional Pay Act would cut Members’ pay by 10 percent and repeal the automatic pay raises that currently take place unless Congress votes to stop them. I come home to Iowa every weekend and hear from Iowans time and again that we need a Congress that works for the American people. Iowans don’t get an automatic raise, so why should Congress? Many Iowa families have been struggling to make ends meet for far too long, and I believe that it is more important than ever to hold Members of Congress accountable to the citizens they represent. Our nation's public officials should not be in it to line their own pockets. If we ever want to restore the public trust in government, Members of Congress have to work for the benefit of their constituents, and not themselves. I am proud to have authored the CHIP IN and Cut Congressional Pay Act, and remain committed to fighting for Iowans’ priorities in Congress.

Sincerely,
