MOUNT CARROLL, ILLINOIS (April 26, 2024) — Timber Lake Playhouse (TLP), the premier professional summer theatre of northwest Illinois, is hosting a busy May for area patrons.

Saddle up for an unforgettable Kentucky Derby Party on May 4, 4PM. Don your best derby attire, sip on a bourbon flight, enjoy a mint julep, and place your “bets” for a chance to win fabulous prizes. You will begin with bourbon tasting; a Bar-B-Que supper shared with our 2024 Magic Owl Theatre Company; and conclude with a viewing of the Run for the Roses. From the heart-pounding race moments to the stylish hats and bowties, it's an afternoon filled with southern charm and high stakes. Join us for a day of horseracing, bourbon and bar-b-que, and good company.

A delightful adaptation of Barbara Park’s bestselling books, the Junie B Jones series, will be performed at the playhouse from May 7–11. Park’s books are brought to life in a genuinely comical musical, Junie B Jones, The Musical. Sneak a peek into the "Top-Secret Personal Beeswax Journal" of the outspoken and lovable Junie B Jones. Awaken your young person's desire to read with the sassy little diva, Junie B Jones, and her adventures in school. Featuring a tremendously loveable character and fun-filled songs, Junie B Jones, The Musical will capture young audience members' hearts just as the books captivated an entire generation of students. Performances are at 10AM and 1PM, Tuesday through Saturday. All tickets are $10.

Dog auditions for TLP’s production of The Wizard of Oz will be on May 11, 4PM. May 18 brings The Four C Notes: Recreating the Music of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons to the playhouse, and TLPalooza, a day of games, food, music, and theatre tours. An evening concert by Jonny Lyons and The Pride will round out TLP’s Spring Events on May 25.

There are many performance opportunities for area youth this summer. We are still casting Munchkins for The Wizard of Oz. Contact the TLP Box Office if you have a potential Munchkin who would like to perform at TLP. There are also opportunities to perform in The Lion King Jr and Ride the Cyclone. Visit our website for more information on these productions.
