November 3, 2016 – Des Moines, IA – In an organizational election held in conjunction with the American Society of Anesthesiologists’ Annual Meeting in Chicago on October 22, 2016, Iowa Society of Anesthesiologists’ member Joseph F. Cassady, Jr., M.D., became the first Iowan elected to the office of Chairman of the American Society of Anesthesiologists Midwest Caucus. Dr. Cassady succeeds Donald E. Arnold, M.D., of St. Louis, MO. Dr. Cassady, a resident of West Des Moines, is also a two-term member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists’ Board of Directors. The 52,000 members of the American Society of Anesthesiologists are organized into five regional caucuses that facilitate member development and provide a political infrastructure for vetting of organizational policies and objectives. The Midwest Caucus is comprised of more than 10,000 member anesthesiologists from thirteen heartland states.
