“Paint Night" at the Playcrafters Barn Theatre -- March 15 through 24.

Friday, March 15, through Sunday, March 24

Playcrafters Barn Theatre, 4950 35th Avenue, Moline IL

From March 15 through 24, audiences at Moline's Playcrafters Barn Theatre are invited to help celebrate Women's History Month with the area debut of author Carey Crim's Paint Night, a sweet and salty tale of friendship, and a comedic drama praised by Broadway World for "understanding the emotions and the universe of these characters" while delivering "the catharsis so vital to a good theatrical experience."

In Paint Night, five long-time best friends, all of them in great need of a girls night out, gather for a bachelorette paint-and-sip night at their local art studio. But as the wine and paint flow freely, secrets and long-held tensions come to the surface. Attempting to make contact with their inner artists, these women confront buried truths about themselves and their relationships, proving that life, like art, rarely turns out exactly as planned. Among the play's national raves, Broadway World added that "Crim’s strength is naturalistic dialogue, quiet humor, and creating a sense of identification between audience and actors." Meanwhile, the Portland Press-Herald stated that Paint Night "falls nicely within a genre of entertainment that blends broad, old-school naughty humor together with references to serious contemporary issues."

Serving as director for Playcrafters' Paint Night is Madelyn Dorta, who previously helmed the theatre's productions of Little Women and A Murder Is Announced, and also assistant directed and stage managed last fall's hit Almost, Maine. Appearing in Dorta's ensemble are a sextet of additional venue veterans: Khalia Denise (Skeleton Crew), Ashley Gomez (Almost, Maine), Kathy Graham (You Can't Take It with You), Ashley Hoskins (Crimes of the Heart), Emmalee Hilburn (Five Women Wearing the Same Dress), and Bez Lancial-McMullen (Circle Mirror Transformation). And with Alisha Hanes serving as Paint Night's producer, additional members of the show's creative team include assistant director and stage manager Amari Harris, technical director Gio Macias, and poster designer Jesse Mohr.

Paint Night runs at Moline's Barn Theatre from March 15 through 24, with performances Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m. Admission is $13-15, and more information and tickets are available by calling (309)762-0330 and visiting Playcrafters.com.
