DAVENPORT, IOWA (April 12, 2019) — Applications are now available for the 2019 Mississippi Valley Fair Queen Contest.

The winner of the contest will reign during the Fair, which is being held July 30 to August 4, and will assist with various fair activities during the week. The winner also will represent Scott County and the Mississippi Valley Fair at the Iowa State Fair’s queen competition. The Iowa State Fair takes place August 8-12, 2019.

DAVENPORT, IOWA (March 12, 2019) – The volunteer firefighters, rescuers and medics of Speedway Fire Rescue (SFR) are holding their annual Motorsports Conference, a two-day training session, this weekend.

Davenport, Iowa (Oct. 18, 2015) – Last Saturday a benefit in Cedar Rapids supported two longtime Speedway Fire-Rescue (SFR) volunteer firefighters. They are Scott and Karry Bohannan, a husband and wife who with their fellow volunteers have protected and aided hundreds of eastern Iowa and western Illinois racing competitors and Quad City Air Show participants over the years.
Scott, the SFR president, and Karry, SFR`s treasurer, were hospitalized with smoke inhalation and suffered a huge loss when their portion of a duplex they lived in with their son Brent at 3rd and Oak streets in Davenport burned on Sept. 6. The Bohannans, who were subsequently released from the hospital, escaped the fire with just the clothes on their backs.
Another Bohannan family benefit is set for 3-11 p.m. this Friday, Oct. 23, at the Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 235, 4401 W Locust St, Davenport. Chili will be served. There will be a bags tournament, a deejay, 50-50 drawings, a raffle and an auction. Everyone is welcome.

3)  SFR and Mitch Swinton, with Lil' Racer Car Club, are making Yankee Dirt Track Classic hats to sell for $15 each at Farley Speedway during their 38th annual Yankee Dirt Track Classic. All of the proceeds from the hat sales will go to Scott and Karry Bohannan and their family. Hats will be available throughout the Yankee Dirt Track Classic. There are several different styles: farmer style with four panel vents and a plastic adjustable strap, all in navy blue; and baseball style with a cloth adjustable back, in black and red; and the fitted style S/M and L/XL, in black.
