Vision Video at the Raccoon Motel -- May 4.

Saturday, May 4, 5:30 p.m.

Raccoon Motel, 315 East Second Street, Davenport IA

Delivering what The Big Takeover described as "brilliant weavings of the sound that has made Joy Division and The Cure so loved," the post-punk goth rockers of Vision Video headline a May 4 concert at Davenport's Raccoon Motel, with Pitchfork raving that the group "exhibits a radiance that distinguishes them from fellow black-lipstick aficionados."

Composed of guitarist and lead singer Dusty Gannon, keyboardist Emily Freedock, bassist Dan Geller, and drummer Jason Fusco, the indie artists of Vision Video are based in Athens, Georgia, and their outfit is designed to inject modern malaise into classic sounds of the late 70's and 80's. The band pays homage to classic acts such as The Chameleons and The Cure, while also bringing a refreshing modern element to the genre. Thematically, their music explores the effects of trauma on the human psyche and finding stability and agency in an insane world. Having served in Afghanistan with the army and as a firefighter in the civilian world, Vision Video's Gannon is no stranger to the darker proclivities of humanity and death itself. "I wanted to write music that helped people remember that it's okay to not be okay," Gannon says, "but that also doesn't shy away from taking a stern look at the darker aspects of our flawed human existence."

Their debut LP Inked in Red and second LP Haunted Hours were recorded and mixed by Tom Ashton of The March Violets at his Sub Von Studios in Athens, Georgia. Both of Vision Video's first two records were met with much critical praise, such as Pitchfork stating that the rockers create "dreamy tunes tailor-made for the sort of wallflower who sprints to the dancefloor the instant the DJ drops 'Age of Consent' or 'Primary' at Goth Night." Vision Video will soon record their next LP Modern Horror at Maze Studios in Atlanta, a recording headed by Grammy Award-winning producer Ben Allen.

Vision Video plays their Davenport engagement on May 4 with an additional set by Then Comes Silence, admission to the 5:30 p.m. concert is $26.45, and their set will be followed by a 7 p.m. performance with Wild Party and Jack ($23.81). For tickets, visit TheRaccoonMotel.com.
