DAVENPORT, IOWA (March 27, 2024) — Gilda's Club Quad Cities proudly announces the profound impact made throughout 2023, marking a year of remarkable growth and unwavering support for individuals and families affected by cancer. Gilda’s Club Quad Cities continues to provide essential support, education, and hope, all at no cost to participants.

For 25 years, Gilda's Club Quad Cities has served as a lifeline for those navigating the challenges of cancer, extending support not only to the individuals facing the diagnosis, but also to their cherished circle of friends and family, including youth and bereaved. Through a diverse array of programs including support groups, educational workshops, healthy-lifestyle activities, social gatherings, and resource referrals, Gilda's Club fosters a sense of community and solidarity, offering solace and strength in times of need.

In 2023, Gilda's Club Quad Cities expanded its reach and impact, offering an impressive total of 657 free programs. This represents a significant increase of 166 additional programs compared to the previous year, a testament to the organization's commitment to meeting the growing demand for its services. These programs catered to a spectrum of needs, providing vital support, education, and empowerment to individuals and families affected by cancer.

Moreover, the year witnessed a remarkable surge in program attendance, with a notable 61% increase — a clear indication of the pressing need for accessible and comprehensive support services within the community. "Our Clubhouses, located in Genesis West (above) and UnityPoint —Trinity (below), have become bustling hubs of activity, serving as a comforting sanctuary for individuals undergoing treatment and their loved ones," noted Joy Bush, Executive Director at Gilda's Club Quad Cities. "We're not just providing programs; we're creating a home away from home, offering solace, companionship, and a sense of belonging during challenging times."

In 2023, Gilda's Club Quad Cities recorded a total of 3,954 visits, underscoring the vital role played by the organization in providing comfort, support, and resources to those affected by cancer.

But the journey doesn't end there. In 2024, Gilda's Club Quad Cities has hit the ground running, already achieving remarkable milestones:

  • Expansion of Support Services: Two new support groups have been added, with plans for one more in the pipeline, underscoring GCQC's commitment to meeting the evolving needs of its community.
  • Family-Centered Programs: Recognizing the importance of family support, GCQC has initiated a monthly family program on weekends, fostering bonds and resilience within families affected by cancer.
  • Community Partnerships: In collaboration with local meal prepper Angerer Eats, Gilda's Club Quad Cities now provides free meals to participants, alleviating the stress of meal-preparation and ensuring individuals can focus on their well-being.
  • Empowering Resources: GCQC has established a positive and empowering wig salon with help from SCRA, offering cancer patients access to free wigs and boosting their confidence and self-esteem during treatment.
  • Nourishing Community: With the support of local businesses, Gilda's Club Quad Cities has served over 325 free meals prior to support group meetings with the help from community partners.
