Akropolis Reed Quintet will be in residence April 16-27, as the final artist in the 2017-2018 Visiting Artist Series from Quad City Arts.

Founded in 2009 at the University of Michigan, Akropolis has won six national chamber music prizes since 2011, including the 2014 Fischoff Gold Medal. Deeply committed to nurturing music appreciation among young audiences, Akropolis is also winner of the 2015 Fischoff Educator Award.

Akropolis is an alumnus of APAP’s prestigious Young Performer’s Career Advancement Program and has received grants from Chamber Music America and the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs for Detroit-based community and educational outreach projects, as well as operating support from the Aaron Copland Fund for Music’s Performance Program.

During their two weeks in the Quad Cities, the quintet will give lectures and demonstrations in 23 schools for elementary through community college students. They will also perform as part of the Wesley United Methodist Church’s Jackson Concert Series at 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 18, in Muscatine, Iowa. The quartet will also give informal public performances on Friday, April 27. They will perform at noon at the Bettendorf Public Library, Bettendorf, and 3 p.m. at the Butterworth Center, Moline.

The ensemble’s full-length public concert will be 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 26, at the Allaert Auditorium, Galvin Fine Arts Center, at St. Ambrose University, Davenport. Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for faculty/staff/alumni/senior citizens, and $8 for non-SAU students. SAU students with current valid student ID are free. The 2017-2018 season of the Visiting Artist Series runs through April 2018 and featured nine performing arts residencies, including a storyteller, musical ensembles, and a jazz dance company.
