Rock Island, Ill. and Davenport, Iowa – June 12, 2017
The 2017 Quad City Arts Metro Arts Youth Apprenticeship Program will provide area youth ages 15-21 with five-week paid summer apprenticeships.
Thirty-six Metro Arts apprentices will be involved with four community arts projects that positively impact their communities: a graphic design installation in downtown Rock Island, improv comedy and public speaking with ComedySportz in downtown Rock Island, public sculpture from recycled materials for a summer exhibit at Davenport’s Main Library, and mural painting at the Fejervary Learning Center at Fejervary Park, Davenport
This year’s program dates are Monday, June 12 to Friday, July 14.
The program finishes with a showcase for all four projects at the Figge Art Museum, Davenport, including a public presentation of the works.
This is the 18th year for the Metro Arts Youth Apprenticeship Program, which employs high school and college students in paid arts apprenticeships. Apprentices were selected through an application and interview process. Participants work on group projects under the supervision of a professional artist and receive a stipend for their work.

About the Metro Arts Youth Apprenticeship Program
Since the summer of 2000, Metro Arts has provided area youth 15-21 years old with paid summer apprenticeships in various arts disciplines.
For five weeks, area youth work together in groups to complete projects that enhance the community through the arts. Participants learn the artistic techniques and applications of their particular genre while developing personally and professionally.
This program allows young adults to build career and artistic skills, as they work under the supervision and mentorship of professional artists. Their mentors are accomplished, local artists who are passionate about teaching and encouraging creativity.
