Ron Paul to Make Far-Reaching Visit to Iowa

Consequential visit includes outreach to core voters
LAKE JACKSON, Texas- 2012 Republican Presidential candidate Ron Paul will campaign in Iowa for two days.  
The visit will occur on Friday-Saturday, October 21st- 22ndand will encompass three postponed campaign stops previously meant for earlier in the month, as well as a series of new events.

"Perhaps it was for the better that the prior one-day visit was re-organized since its elements are inserted into what will be a memorable, far more comprehensive visit to the Hawkeye State," said Ron Paul 2012 Presidential Campaign Iowa Chairman Drew Ivers.  

"Over the course of two days Ron Paul will reach out to media, manufacturing workers, voters at town hall meetings, college-age youth and persons of faith.  We expect this visit's impact to exceed that of any past visit, save for the generous amount of time Dr. Paul spent in the run-up to his near-statistical tie at the Ames Straw Poll," said Mr. Ivers.

In Case You Missed It: Ron Paul and Ronald Reagan

Both were considered 'unelectable' and even 'fringe' LAKE JACKSON, Texas - The Ron Paul 2012 Presidential Campaign's Iowa Chairman, Drew Ivers, recently authored an op-ed published in the influential Des Moines Register.  The piece compares Dr. Paul's rise to that of Ronald Reagan in the late 1970s.  "Ron and Ron," as it may, were both considered too far outside of the mainstream to garner the Republican nomination, let alone the cohesive coalition required for a general election victory.

He had no trouble expressing his anti-Washington, anti-establishment feelings. And he maintained a strong grassroots following. His disdain for the overreaching hand of big government and all its regulatory tendencies provided an easy answer to complex questions: "minimum government authority."

Ronald Reagan would go on to become the United States' 40th president. And his "government is the problem" ideology is in step with one well-known Texas congressman currently running for president.

The Paul-Reagan comparison is one that's easy for me to make. I was a college freshman in 1964 and a Barry Goldwater supporter. Later in 1980 I was part of the Reagan Revolution here in Iowa, serving on his campaign in northeast Iowa in the old 3rd Congressional District. In doing so I met with Reagan a few times and also had the pleasure of visiting with him and wife Nancy.

In addition to his presidency, Reagan has strong ties to Iowa having been a WHO Radio broadcaster. From conversations I've had with voters, the Reagan legacy still inspires them to seek candidates with Reagan-like appeal ? anti-establishment reformers with big ideas, and none of the usual candidate dithering...

Ron Paul Places First in 2011 Values Voter Summit Straw Poll

Handily wins 37 percent of votes cast in key contest
LAKE JACKSON, Texas - 2012 Republican Presidential candidate Ron Paul placed first in the 2011 Values Voter Straw Poll today garnering an impressive 37 percent of the total number of votes cast.

In placing first, Dr. Paul placed ahead of Herman Cain, Rick Santorum and Rick Perry who placed second, third and fourth with a mere 23, 16 and 8 percent, respectively.

Held annually each year since 2007, the Values Voter Summit presidential straw poll is seen as a benchmark for how well Republican candidates will appeal to Christian conservative activists.  Endorsement by this core activist community is likely to energize voters nationwide that identify with family-friendly issues such as parental decision-making concerning children's education, less government interference in local communities, and the sanctity of human life.

"Dr. Paul's standing among Christian conservative voters is growing as people become more familiar with the man as well as the message,"said Ron Paul 2012 Presidential Campaign Chairman Jesse Benton.

"Dr. Paul is a humble man of faith, who has personally delivered more than 4,000 babies, so he's well acquainted with the sanctity of life.  And importantly, he never fails to connect the worthiness of the liberty message he champions with that system's moral superiority over schemes that promote coercive government activism leading to the breakdown of the American family,"said Mr. Benton.

Speaking of Dr. Paul's speech earlier today Doug Wead, a born again Christian and former adviser to two U.S. Presidents, said he was blown away by Dr. Paul's command of the scripture.  "He offered a scriptural rationale to every position and moved from one passage to the next without hesitation.  The man knows the Bible."

Mr. Wead says that the rising numbers of born again Christians turning to Dr. Paul shows that, "For many of us, the best way to assure our own religious freedom is to get back to the Constitution and defend everybody else's freedoms too."

Ron Paul Endorsed by Iowa Republican Party Leader

ANKENY, Iowa - The Iowa component of the Ron Paul 2012 Presidential Campaign announced that Iowa Republican State Central Committee member James Mills has publicly endorsed Dr. Paul. 

Mr. Mills already serves as 4th District co-chairman for the Ron Paul 2012 Presidential Campaign and a national advisory board member of "Homeschoolers for Ron Paul."  However, as a function of his endorsement he is clarifying his support for Dr. Paul from the perspective of an Iowa Republican Party leader.

"I'm pleased to endorse Congressman Ron Paul for the Republican nomination to defeat President Barack Obama next year," said Mr. Mills, who is an educator in Mason City living in Nora Springs.

"Dr. Paul's consistent record of unwavering principles continues to attract new voters to the Republican Party.  His ability to unite a diverse, grassroots following is a testament to his message of Liberty.  Dr. Paul's firm belief and confidence in the power of the individual, free markets, sound money, and a non-interventionist foreign policy is needed to lead the charge at the top of the ticket," said Mr. Mills. 

Mr. Mills is a lifelong Iowan raised on a family farm.  He graduated with a B.A. from the University of Northern Iowa in Math Education.  He worked as a teacher in the Nora Springs Rock Falls Community School District and the Mason City-based Sylvan Learning Center, which he now owns. 

"The endorsement of Ron Paul by Republican Party of Iowa State Central Committeeman James Mills is further proof that Dr. Paul's message resonates with Republicans," said A.J. Spiker, Iowa Vice-Chair for the Ron Paul 2012 Presidential Campaign.

"Dr. Paul has been endorsed by more members of the Republican Party of Iowa's State Central Committee than any other candidate seeking the presidency.  Five of the 17 members of the RPI leadership have now endorsed Ron Paul. James Mills joins Drew Ivers, A.J. Spiker, David Fischer and Jeremiah Johnson in endorsing Ron Paul for President.  Each of these party leaders represent more than 100,000 registered Republicans in their respective districts," said Mr. Spiker.

Clay County GOP Chair & Co-Chair Endorse Ron Paul for the Presidency

Kris Thiessen and Josh Davenport prefer Paul ANKENY, Iowa - The Iowa component of the Ron Paul 2012 Presidential Campaign announced today that two Clay County Republican Party officials have endorsed Dr. Paul for President of the United States.

"The reason I was first impressed with Congressman Paul and continue to be is his strong stand to preserve our individual freedoms, personal responsibility and States' rights, and to limit the power of the federal government," said Clay County Republican Chair Kris Thiessen. 

The first round of federal bailouts and stimulus inspired Ms. Thiessen to organize Spencer's first Tax Day Tea Party rally.  A small business owner for 25 years, she has been the Clay County GOP chair since July 2010.  Her husband George is a 20-year Navy reservist who served in Afghanistan in 2006 and supports Dr. Paul, as do the couple's three children.

"I am starting to hear people say, 'This is the Age of Ron Paul.'  I think they are right.  It's the age where Americans across the country are saying our government is too big.  Republican candidate Congressman Ron Paul is the only one who will bring sanity to the White House," said Ms. Thiessen.

Ms. Thiessen publicly endorsed Dr. Paul at his Spencer Town Hall on Tuesday, which attracted 135 supporters and interested voters.    

"Ron Paul's economic plan and his principles of limited government are what our nation needs more than any other political promise that is being touted.  Whether we want to realize and admit it or not, things have really changed economically to the point of threatening our national security," said Josh Davenport, Clay County Republican Party Co-Chair. 

Mr. Davenport is a Baptist pastor in Spencer, as well as a Spencer Tea Party leader. Mr. Davenport says that most people would consider him to be an evangelical fundamentalist Christian, and that he supported Mike Huckabee in the last presidential cycle.  Adding that he likes a lot of what Dr. Paul's colleague Rep. Michele Bachmann says, he settled on the idea that Dr. Paul has a solid track record.   

"So many things have happened that Ron Paul said would happen, what he says makes sense to me and he has a proven legislative track record to prove what he would do as president.  Our nation is tired of the nonsense.  The people don't want to vote for another party-establishment candidate who won't dare to make the necessary changes and Ron Paul is the only one who can defeat President Obama in 2012," said Mr. Davenport.
