On the Nomination of Judge Neil Gorsuch to be Associate Justice of the Supreme Court

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley of Iowa released the following statement on the nomination of Rachel Brand to be Associate Attorney General of the United States.

Wednesday, February 01, 2017 - WASHINGTON – Following a thorough review and lengthy debate, the Senate Judiciary Committee today approved the nomination of Senator Jeff Sessions to be Attorney General of the United States. Sessions, a longtime member of the committee, took questions from his fellow senators for more than 10 hours in a marathon hearing and responded to more than 700 additional written questions prior to today’s vote in committee.

Sen. Good morning. Today, we’re going to vote today on Senator Sessions’ nomination to serve as Attorney General. After we vote on Senator Sessions, we’ll turn to legislation and other Committee housekeeping business on the agenda. Before I turn to my opening remarks, let me just mention how we’re going to proceed

Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa today met with Robert Lighthizer, President-elect Donald Trump’s nominee to serve as United States Trade Representative. The Finance Committee, where Grassley is a senior member and former chairman, will handle the nomination. Grassley made the following comment on the meeting.

Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa today convened a meeting with several fellow senators from biofuels-producing states and Texas Gov. Rick Perry, President-elect Trump’s nominee to serve as secretary of the Department of Energy. The agency conducts research on fuel optimization that is relevant to biofuels policy-making. Grassley made the following comment after the meeting.
