Forums Seek Input on Future of Scott County Libraries

• The four public libraries in Scott County invite county residents to attend public forums from October 10 through 14 to discuss how libraries would best be structured and funded. Working in small groups, citizens will discuss options such as remaining independent, unifying into one library, and increasing the level of collaboration.

Scott County Libraries Release Report on Collaboration

• The four libraries in Scott County have released the third of four reports of their Libraries Together project. The 47-page report, "Starting Points for Collaboration: Libraries in Scott County, Iowa," provides background on models for collaboration and local examples such as Quad-LINC, along with options for collaboration that were developed during meetings with library staff members.

• On Saturday, September 10, Habitat for Humanity Quad Cities dedicated its 34th home overall and the 16th Habitat home built in Davenport. The house is located at 907 LeClaire Street and will become home to Roxie Grady and her family.

Law Allows Casino Rock Island to Move

• Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich has signed a law that could pave the way for the relocation of Casino Rock Island. The legislation allows the Illinois Gaming Board to approve the relocation of any casino on the Mississippi River.

Scott County Wins Digital Survey Award

• The Scott County Board of Supervisors has announced that Scott County has received the 2005 Digital Counties Survey Award from the Center for Digital Government and the National Association of Counties. The survey recognizes counties that make extensive and effective use of technology, and Scott County is the only Iowa county to receive the 2005 award.

• Iowa's congressional delegation has secured $2.36 billion for transportation projects throughout the state in the Highway Reauthorization Bill. Included is: $67.4 million for I-74 bridge replacement over the Mississippi River in Bettendorf and other I-74 improvements on both sides of the river; $5.

Health & Fitness Expo Spotlights 40-Foot Colon

• A 40-foot colon replica with appropriately sized polyps is intended to amuse, educate, and ultimately save lives. The Colossal Colon, a crawl-through replica of a human colon, is the creation of Molly McMaster, a colon-cancer survivor who was diagnosed with the disease on her 23rd birthday.

Bethany For Children Receives Grants, Unveils New Web Site

• The Quad City Parrotheads Club recently donated $3,500 to Bethany for Children & Families. Children in the Therapeutic Recreation Program will receive life-skills training and will participate in educational outings and a variety of recreational opportunities thanks to this gift.
