• After blowing minds with the DVD series it started in 2003, Palm Pictures is releasing four more volumes in its Director's Series imprint. Due this coming Tuesday, this time the focus is on the visual ambition of directors Jonathan Glazer (Sexy Beast), Mark Romanek (One Hour Photo), Anton Corbijn, and Stephane Sednaoui.

• The Rock Island Housing Authority (RIHA) recently purchased the Hickman Community Center located four blocks from the Martin Luther King Community Center. The Hickman Center will be restored and used as the primary RIHA maintenance distribution and warehouse facility.
"We just unpacked Grand Wood's palette," a worker told Figge Art Museum Director Linda Downs on Monday, while she was giving me a tour. Such are the details that the museum's staff is attending to in the days leading up the Figge's grand opening on Saturday.

Here we go again! Davenport's infinitely obtuse city council is considering another colossal giveaway relative to our riverfront, only this time it involves Davenport's entire levee, not just the critical 15 acres of downtown riverfront we have compromised for the Isle of Capri to build an 11-story hotel and five-story parking garage, while other viable alternative sites have yet to be fully explored and/or negated.
Hidden away in record-company vaults for almost a decade, Willie Nelson's lost reggae-infused recordings are seeing the light of day. Originally recorded with producer Don Was in Jamaica with legendary guest Toots Hibbert, the resulting CD, Countryman, found a champion in Lost Highway Records, which polished the rescued sessions and presents this gentle little gem this coming Tuesday.
• After a small fire on June 22 caused Circa '21 Dinner Playhouse to temporarily close for an extensive clean-up, the Rock Island dinner theatre is pleased to announce its grand re-opening on Wednesday, July 20.
