DES MOINES, IOWA (August 27, 2019) — The top quick-bread makers from across the state put their best creations to the test in the Quick Breads competition, judged Friday, August 16, at the 2019 Iowa State Fair. Judy Kiburz-Harrison of Tingley took home the Sweepstakes award.

Entries were judged on general appearance, texture, flavor and aroma.

DES MOINES, IOWA (August 27, 2019) — Yeast breads for the Whole Grain Breads with Red Star Platinum Yeast competition were judged Friday, August 16, at the 2019 Iowa State Fair.

Louise Piper of Garner claimed first place and a $75 cash award.

Charlene Hermiston of Blue Grass earned second place.

Entries were judged on shape, crust, texture and flavor.

DES MOINES, IOWA (August 27, 2019) — Horseshoe-throwers from across the state competed in the Iowa State Men's Championship division of the Horseshoe Contest Sunday at the 2019 Iowa State Fair.

The State Fair hosts horseshoe competitions every Fair day. All Horseshoe Pitching competitions take place on the horseshoe courts just east of Farm Bureau Pioneer Hall.

DES MOINES, IOWA (August 27, 2019) — Anderson Limousin of Garner was awarded Champion Iowa Female. Jim and Becky Venner of Breda were awarded Champion Iowa Bull.

Anderson Limousin of Garner took home Grand Champion Limousin Female and Kennedy Crist of Tipton exhibited the Reserve Champion Limousin Female.

Callahan Brothers of Centerview, Missouri, were awarded Grand Champion Bull and Jim and Becky Venner of Breda were awarded Reserve Champion Bull.
