CHICAGO – Governor Bruce Rauner today announced the next steps to comprehensive plan to combat hate crimes in Illinois through improved training of law enforcement.

As directed by the Governor last month, Illinois State Police worked with the Anti-Defamation League to create a new curriculum for Illinois State Police Cadets to better identify, investigate and prosecute hate crimes.

The Panther Players at United Township High School are proud to present our 2017 musical, Little Women, April 26-29! Based on the classic novel by Louis May Alcott, Little Women tells the story of headstrong Jo March who struggles with the expectations put on her as a young woman in Civil War-Era New England. Jo, a prolific writer, uses her stories to make sense of the world around her and redefine what it means to be an accomplished female.

Due to an overwhelming response, all the trees for the Plant Some Shade® program are sold out.  This program is sponsored by Scott County Conservation, funded by MidAmerican Energy Company, and administered by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, Bureau of Forestry. 

Customers who pre-ordered trees are reminded that tree pickup is Thursday, April 20th at West Lake Park between the hours of 4 – 6 p.m.  Bring your order card with you, cards will be mailed this week. 

April Marks 49th Anniversary of Fair Housing Act

(DES MOINES) – Today, at the Administration’s weekly press conference, Governor Terry Branstad, Lt. Governor Kim Reynolds and Executive Director of the Iowa Finance Authority Dave Jamison recognized the importance of affordable housing in Iowa by celebrating the 49th anniversary of the Fair Housing Act and announce a resource to connect Iowans with housing.

Davenport, Iowa – The Center for Active Seniors, Inc. (CASI) Bridal Garage Sale is Sunday, April 23, from 11am to 2pm at CASI, 1035 West Kimberly Road, Davenport, IA 52806. Soon-to- be brides can shop the various vendor stations as well as the garage sale tables where past brides and vendors are selling their wares.

In conjunction with National Fair Housing Month, the Davenport Civil Rights Commission will facilitate a panel-led discussion on Housing in Davenport at the Davenport Public Library on Thursday, April 20th. The event will be held at the Fairmount Library (3000 Fairmount Street) beginning at 6:30pm. Join us as we discuss the current situation and ideas for how to address problems related to housing in Davenport.
