LECLAIRE, Iowa - The cities of LeClaire, Iowa and Port Byron, Illinois are preparing for their unique 3-day event that is unlike any festival anywhere else in the USA.  It's called Tug Fest and runs August 13-15.
Tug Fest includes live bands, carnival rides, great food, a grand parade, 5K run and the greatest fireworks spectacular in the two-state area. What makes Tug Fest truly unique is the fact that it is the only Tug-of-War event in the country that spans two states and crosses the Mississippi River. LeClaire, Iowa's theme this year is "Safari", and "Tug for a Cause" proceeds go to King Harvest Pet Rescue.
On the August 15th from 12:30-3:00 PM, barge traffic and pleasure boats will yield the right of way to a 2,400 foot long, 680 pound rope that stretches across the river between the two towns. Eleven teams from each side compete against each other trying to gain advantage by pulling in the most feet of rope within 3 minutes. The town with the most winning teams receives the coveted "Alabaster Eagle in Flight" trophy and bragging rights for that year.
This year's festival kicks off on Thursday, August 13th with Family Night and free admission to the LeClaire Levee area. For $20 you will receive a wristband for unlimited carnival rides that evening. Friday, August 14th is the grand parade and fireworks spectacular, and Saturday, August 15th is all about tugging.  Illinois leads the competition with 17 winning years over Iowa's 11.  Admission to the LeClaire Levee is $5 on Friday and Saturday.
For more information and a complete Tug Fest schedule, please visit: www.tugfest.com
Situated at the intersection of I-80 and Hwy. 67 just north of the Quad Cities, LeClaire offers a complete shopping and dining experience. Relax along the scenic streets of this historic river town that exudes turn-of-the-century charm. LeClaire has great events including First Friday, weekly Farmer's Market, car shows, and the Tug Fest in August. Attractions include the Buffalo Bill Museum, Antique Archaeology - "Home of the American Pickers", Wide River Winery and The Mississippi River Distilling Co. Nature lovers enjoy the scenery at Lock and Dam #14 - bald eagles in the winter and pelicans during the spring and fall. For more information: www.visitleclaire.com

Veto Message for HB 227:

To the Honorable Members of The Illinois House of Representatives, 99th General Assembly:

Today I veto House Bill 227 from the 99th General Assembly.

Current law requires a person using a non-powered watercraft to obtain a water usage stamp from the Department of Natural Resources, which is available for $6 per year. This bill would exempt "a non-resident operating a non-powered watercraft while engaged in a paddling event or race."

Tourism is an important economic driver for Illinois, and I appreciate non-residents who come to Illinois to enjoy sporting events. The Department of Natural Resources has committed to working with event organizers to ensure that the organizers are able to sell stamps to participants on the day of the race.

While we work to make compliance more convenient and efficient, I do not support exempting one particular group of non-residents, particularly when Illinois residents are not being exempted.

Therefore, pursuant to Section 9(b) of Article IV of the Illinois Constitution of 1970, I hereby return House Bill 227, entitled "AN ACT concerning transportation", with the foregoing objections, vetoed in its entirety.

Sincerely,

Bruce Rauner

GOVERNOR

August 7, 2015 - This morning is the first day of business for Cornerstone Family Dentistry, at 1304 Brady Street, in the heart of the Hilltop Campus Village.

Dr. Melinda Hochgesang, DMD, said that they will be open every Friday until mid-September, at which point they'll be open full-time. Dr. Hochgesang is a general practitioner of Dentistry, with a specialization for small children and for babies.

The building has been undergoing renovation for sometime, and has a nice open feel. It was formerly owned and occupied by Davenport Dentures, Ltd., whose owner recently retired.

The facility offers ample parking and is conveniently located adjacent to Red Band Coffee, across the street from St. John's Methodist Church and Townsquare Media.

"This is a great addition for the Hilltop Campus Village, one that will be appreciated by the many residents living in these growing commercial corridors", said Scott Tunnicliff, Drector of the Hilltop Campus Village. "We have been in touch with the new owners for a couple months, providing some counsel on matters of Signage and the availability of financial resources for façade improvement through the Hilltop Association's Self-Sustaining Municipal Improvement District (SSMID).

"Our specialty with kids and babies is going to be of real interest to folks in the Quad Cities", said Dr. Hochgesang. "We anticipate a lot of customers because of that and due to our high visibility. This is a great location for us, and we anticipate becoming a meaningful partner within the Hilltop community."

More information may be gathered by contacting Scott Tunnicliff at 563 370 2098. For appointments, contact Cornerstone Family Dentistry, 563 - 231 - 5990, MindyHochgesang@gmail.com.
Spin Zone Bumper Cars from Amusement Products will be added to the K&K Hardware Kids Zone
DAVENPORT, Iowa (August 7, 2015) - Already home to award-winning improvements and amusements rides, Modern Woodmen Park will give its guests another unique thrill, as the Spin Zone Bumper Cars had their ribbon cutting Friday at the ballpark. A set of five cars have been installed in the K&K Hardware Kids Zone adjacent to the Party Plaza down the first-base line at Modern Woodmen Park.
The bumper cars add to a fun-packed lineup of amusements that includes the Ferris wheel atop the berm in left field, the Mediacom Drop'N Twist and Space Camp in the Party Plaza, as well as the dual zip line that operates on South Gaines Street outside the ballpark on game days.
Each of the Spin Zone Bumper Cars from Amusement Products seat one driver, who controls the car with a lever on each side of the car. The drivers can bump their cars into one another, and for added excitement, if a driver hits another car on one of its Spin Zone Targets, that car will be sent into three 360-degree revolutions while it flashes LED lights - showing other drivers the car has been hit. The ride operator can also add to the fun with Chaos Mode that sends all cars into similar spins.
"Every kid loves bumper cars, so the Spin Zone Bumper Cars make a great addition to the Modern Woodmen Park amusements lineup," said River Bandits owner Dave Heller. "Now, for the first time at any ballpark, our fans can create their own amusement experience - by driving the Spin Zone Bumper Cars, sending other cars into crazy spins, and delighting riders and viewers with a light show and unpredictable - and unforgettable - fun!"
The amusements are open during all River Bandits home games, normally beginning 60 minutes before the scheduled first pitch. The Ferris wheel is also open every Saturday - weather permitting - from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., as well as Saturday non-game days 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
The Spin Zone Bumper Cars will cost five tickets. Fans can purchase tickets for $1 each or buy 25 tickets for $20
