New Video Offers Weight Management Tips

Cincinnati, OH (Jan. 8, 2015) - Nearly everyone is on some kind of diet. Losing weight isn't easy. And keeping it off can be even harder. That's why Mercy Health (formerly Catholic Health Partners) - a Catholic healthcare ministry serving Ohio and Kentucky - has devoted the second of its monthly Mercy Health: Helping You Be Well videos to weight management.

In a concise video on Mercy Health's YouTube channel, Drs. Mohamed I. Dahman of Mercy Health Physicians in Cincinnati and Stephanie Dunkle-Blatter of St. Rita's Weight Management in Lima answer questions such as: How do I know if I'm at an unhealthy weight? What is the healthiest way to lose weight? What kind of foods should I eat? How much should I exercise? Are there any fad diets that could work for me?

Governor Quinn Statement on Leaders' Joint Proclamation for Special Election

CHICAGO - Governor Pat Quinn today issued the below statement regarding legislation he proposed that would allow voters to fill the elected position of Illinois Comptroller. A special election will give voters the opportunity to choose their Comptroller in the next statewide election on Nov. 8, 2016. The primary election is scheduled for March 15, 2016. Governor Quinn issued the following statement:

"I thank Speaker Madigan for his partnership and support of this important legislation that will allow voters to exercise their democratic right to elect their Comptroller.

"We must ensure that power always lies with the people in choosing who their statewide elected officials should be.

"I look forward to working with Speaker Madigan and President Cullerton to pass this measure tomorrow in the Illinois House and Senate."

THE CANADIAN PACIFIC RAILWAY CONTRIBUTES $8,000 TO CHURCHES UNITED HUNGER MINISTRY

Churches United of the Quad City Area has received an $8,000.00 contribution from The Canadian Pacific Railway, as part of its Holiday Train Hunger program. This donation adds much needed support to Churches United's Hunger Ministry in the Quad City Area.

The Holiday Hunger Train rolled through the Quad Cities on December 5, 2014, stopping in Davenport to entertain hundreds of spectators and present this donation to Churches United.

Churches United operates 26 food pantries and 3 hot meal sites in the Quad Cities, and Winnie's Place, a shelter serving women (and their children) who are homeless and/or victims of domestic violence.

GRAND VIEW UNIV FALL DEAN'S LIST

DES MOINES, Iowa. (January 7, 2015) - Recognition for outstanding academic achievement has been given to the Grand View University students Sarah Schmertmann of Bettendorf and Hunter Williams of Davenport and for the 2014 fall semester.

The students are named to the Dean's List for earning a grade point average of 3.5 or better on a 4.0 scale while carrying at least 12 hours of classes.

Grand View University, with an enrollment of approximately 2,300 students, is an independent, liberal arts college affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.

Local students make Lewis University's Dean's List

ROMEOVILLE, IL (01/07/2015)(readMedia)-- Lewis University announces Dean's List honorees.These following students were among those honored on the Lewis University Dean's List for fall semester 2014.

Aaron Wilson of Rock Island (61201) was studying Sport Management at Lewis University.

Sean Lillis of Geneseo (61254) was studying Physics at Lewis University.

Julia Dawson of Moline (61265) was studying Radiation Therapy at Lewis University.

Jacob Dopler of East Moline (61244) was studying Finance at Lewis University.

The Salvation Army of the Quad Cities has $20,000 Gap to Reach Red Kettle Campaign Goal

The $760,000 fund-raising goal accounts for approximately 60 percent of the Quad Cities Salvation Army's operating budget. The funds will help The Salvation Army meet the demand for services for shelter, food, clothing and other basic human needs here in the Quad Cities.

"The Salvation Army's work is simply not possible without the people of this community who believe in what we do.  This final $20,000 is extremely important - this amount of money could provide for all the meals served to the children and their parents at the shelter. Or it could allow us to provide housing and casework to 20 homeless families for two months at the Family Service Center," said Major Gary Felton, Quad Cities Coordinator.

With just a few weeks left, The Salvation Army encourages the community to share what they can with people who have so little.
