Fred Hammond & Donnie McClurkin

The Festival of Praise Tour

7:00 pm Monday, September 29, 2014

Adler Theatre, 136 E. 3rd Street, Davenport, IA 52801

The Festival of Praise Tour is brought to us by Echo Ministries.

For more than 35 years, music listeners around the world have known Fred Hammond as a talented songwriter, bassist and vocalist. Known worldwide as the tall raspy tenor who commands your attention with his powerful and rich sounding vocals, Donnie McClurkin has more than proven that is far more than a gospel singer.

One of the most celebrated artists in gospel music, Donnie McClurkin is the Senior Pastor of Perfecting Faith Church in Freeport, NY, host of a nationally syndicated radio show and a judge on Sunday Best, the highly-rated gospel talent competition show on the BET Network. He is currently promoting his latest CD project, Duets. This is McClurkin's first tour since the highly acclaimed The King's Men Tour 2012, which featured Kirk Franklin, Marvin Sapp and Israel Houghton. "I can't begin to express how excited I am to be teaming up with my long-time friend and brother, Fred Hammond, for the Festival of Praise Tour," says Donnie.  "We're planning a great evening of worship that we know will minister to people across the country and spread the message of God's love."

Message from New Anthem:

"A lot of people don't know this, but I produced the annual Quad City Gospel Music Festival with Valerie Davis for over 13 years. We helped to teach Valerie the concert business, gave her start up office equipment, paid her way to Nashville for Christian concert promoter training and we worked in depth with her starting in 1997. Valerie Davis is now the region's most respected concert promoter, having brought in big names from the African-American Gospel recording industry over decades, and more recently, the Smooth Jazz Concert Series (which is celebrating its 10th Anniversary next month!)

"The coolest thing about the experience over those years was what the mainstream 'white' church is missing, and has no idea of. Our African-American brothers and sisters in the Lord are so richly blessed with spirit and love, with worship and praise, it's something that I wish every single believer in the Quad Cities area could experience first-hand. Because I know how richly you would be blessed by the experience. The trick is getting the mainstream to go to these events. Here is a great chance to do more than witness it, but to experience it first-hand. Don't miss this!

"Yours in Christ,

Timm Dalman

Wine Aficionado Shares Tips for a Full-Bodied Experience

Slide over, sweaty mug of brutish beer; wine has stepped up its game!

In the past two decades, zins, cabs and chardonnays have soared in popularity among imbibing Americans. The preference of just one in four in 1992, its now the alcoholic beverage of choice for 35 percent of us, according to a 2013 Gallup poll. At the same time, beer has taken a tumble, from the favorite of nearly half of us to just 36 percent.

"Wine is an adventure in a glass - something other cultures have recognized for centuries," says Howard Kleinfeld, author (as Howard K.) of "Dial M for Merlot," www.DialMforMerlot.com, a fun novel about a lovelorn nerd whose world snaps to life with his first wine tasting.

"For a long time in this country, we viewed wine as an elitist beverage. Just to be eligible to uncork a bottle required a scary level of sophistication. I have great respect for connoisseurs and the sommeliers, but if you've ever attended a wine tasting, you quickly see wine is actually the great equalizer."

For those who've never visited a vineyard or sipped a Gewurztraminer, Kleinfeld offers these tips to free up your palate -- and your psyche -- for a full-bodied experience.

1.  What's the best wine?
You'll find all kinds of lists purporting to distill the top 10 or top 100 best wines of the thousands upon thousands of new releases each year. They are a wonderful resource for information and a great starting point, but there is no substitute for personal exploration.
"The best wine is always whatever's in your glass at the moment," Kleinfeld says, "unless whatever's in your glass makes you grimace, in which case ..."

2.  Don't drink it if it doesn't make you happy.
Life really is too short to not make the most of every moment - and every sensual experience.
"I learned that in 2007 when I was diagnosed with throat cancer at, what I felt was, a very young age," Kleinfeld says. "I got through surgery, chemotherapy and radiation with the love and support of my family and friends, but I lost my sense of taste for a few years."
Cancer-free and with all of his senses intact, Kleinfeld says he has resolved to enjoy every sip of life.
"Don't waste your time on wine you don't enjoy. Save it for cooking," he says. "Drink something that puts a smile on your face. And remember - there are all kinds of smiles."

3.  Go ahead and shell out $50 or $100 on a wine you just have to taste again.
A lot of us think California and Napa Valley when we think domestic wines, and while The Golden State is the No. 1 producer in the country (followed by Washington, Oregon and New York), every state now has wineries. That means that wherever you are, there's a wine tasting room within driving distance.
"If you go to a wine tasting and you sample something you absolutely love, something you know you want to taste again - maybe with a steak, which they don't usually have at wine-tasting rooms, go ahead and buy it," Kleinfeld advises.
"Forget that it costs three or four times what you (might) usually spend for a bottle of wine. Splurge. See tip No. 2."

4.  Forget the red with meat, white with fish and chicken rule - unless it works for you.
The idea of pairing red wines with red meats has to do with the bolder flavor of both. Fish and chicken tend to have milder flavors, as do many white wines.
"But there are so many exceptions to those 'rules' you may as well just toss 'em," Kleinfeld says. "They don't take into account the range of flavors of meat, fish and chicken, especially when you consider all the different ways they can be prepared. And if you're not a fan of Riesling, for instance, you won't like it no matter what you pair it with."
Be an adventurer, he advises. Open a few different varieties of wine when you sit down to eat and explore different pairings.
"The entrees and wines you best enjoy together are the perfect pairings for you."

John Oates, Rosanne Cash, Of Monsters and Men, Dustin Lynch,
Mike Posner, Neon Trees, and 3 Doors Down Are Among 2014 Judges

September 16, 2014 - Unsigned Only Music Competition is pleased to announce its 2014 winners selected from over 8,000 entries worldwide. The overall Grand Prize goes to the up-and-coming Nashville band Goodbye June with the song "Daisy." Judged by a roster of high-profile journalists and artists such as Of Monsters And Men, Rosanne Cash, Mike Posner, John Oates, Dustin Lynch and many more, Unsigned Only is a unique music competition designed for solo artists and bands who are unsigned to a major label.
Winning $10,000 cash and additional merchandise, the Grand Prize winner also receives the unprecedented opportunity to be mentored by the top echelon of record company professionals, including Presidents and top-level executives from Universal Republic, Sire, Elektra, Atlantic, Warner Bros., Capitol, Sub Pop, Big Machine, Roc Nation, Virgin, Word, American Recordings, and Minty Fresh.
"We're thrilled that our judges selected Nashville rockers Goodbye June as this year's Grand Prize winners," state Founders Candace Avery and Jim Morgan. "As a band that is clearly moving up the ranks in the independent world of rock and roll, we predict it won't be long before this band will be gracing the same stages as some of their more
well-known idols. Goodbye June, hello world!"
Southern rock with a contemporary twist, Goodbye June's music showcases their individual and collective talents, as well as their grit and soul. The three cousins who comprise Goodbye June believe that the key to their success is their openness and honesty with each other, and this has contributed to how their sound was created.  Formed after the death of the guitarist's brother, playing music became an emotional release and a big part of the healing process for them. Their debut album "Nor The Wild Music Flow" was released in 2012, alongside their debut music video "Microscope" featuring St. Louis Rams head coach Jeff Fisher and country star Steve Holy. The band embarked on a debut European tour in the Fall of 2013 where they toured through Germany, Sweden, Finland, Holland, Belgium, France, and Spain during a 6-week stint across the Atlantic. The guys are currently finishing up their yet-to-be-titled sophomore album with Grammy-nominated producer Paul Moak and Kevin Williamson.
In addition to the Grand Prize winner, many other deserving artists are winners in their respective categories. Mount Carroll, IL--The Board of Directors of Timber Lake Playhouse has announced that current Executive Director, James Beaudry, will be returning to the position of Artistic Director for the theatre company's 2015 summer season. The company is beginning a search for a new Executive Director, who will work with the board of directors, overseeing all business operations of the company which just completed its 53rd summer in Mount Carroll.

Tina Stretton, Manager of Theatre Operations announced her departure following a very successful summer season that critics said "sets the bar incredibly high." Looking at the growth of the company, a task force made of board members, audience members, regional business leaders and consultants recommended an evolution in company leadership to help keep the artistic quality high while improving audience services and the financial stability of the institution. Beaudry is pleased with the upcoming changes.

"The Company is committed to positive change to manage our growth and improve audience experience. We've outgrown our own operations--which is a great problem to have--but it's still a problem until it's solved. I'm thrilled that the Board of Directors is taking steps to see TLP grow to new heights," Beaudry said.

"It's been a privilege to call TLP my artistic home for almost fifteen years. I'm excited to be able to focus all of my efforts once again on the creative work of the playhouse, so we can continue to offer the spectacular work that our audiences expect--with both inventive stagecraft like our production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and by bringing in the best talent from around the country as we did with Les Miserables."

The Board of Directors hope to fill the new position by November 1, 2014 following a national and regional search. Information about the job and the company can be found at www.timberlakeplayhouse.org.

Timber Lake Playhouse serves 20,000 patrons a year in Northwest, Illinois, and is the oldest continuously operating summer theatre in the state. The company receives support from the Illinois Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts. 2015 marks the 40th anniversary of the theatre building. The original building was destroyed in a fire in 1974.

TLP's 2015 summer season includes Hairspray, The Big Meal, Peter Pan, Greater Tuna, Big Fish and Big River. Children's shows include Pinocchio and James And The Giant Peach. Season passes for all six shows are only $119 and are available now at 815-244-2035 or at www.timberlakeplayhouse.org. Gift certificates and group sales are available year round.

Tips from an Online Video Marketing Specialist

Online video marketing has become a staple, with 81 percent of companies producing video content for their websites and 69 percent producing it for social media, according to the 2014 Online Video Production Trends Report.

"There are loads of marketing videos on the web now, and some extremely effective," says Jennifer Santoro, integrative marketing specialist and Chief Happiness Officer for InVidz Smart Video Technology, (http://InVidz.com). "But there are plenty that just don't work."

Santoro says she's noticed common themes among the latter group. Based on those, here are her five ways to ensure your marketing video will suck.

1.  The Video Takes Too Long to Get to the Point
In the age of the "tweet," marketers have only a few seconds to capture a viewer's attention. In order to get the viewer to engage, a marketer must put serious thought into what the main point of the video is, and then clearly communicate that message as quickly as possible. The attention span for video watching seems to be about 60 seconds, so viewers don't want to hear a marketing message that goes on and on. Every word counts! Don't use five words when three will do. This is where the practice of writing, rewriting and then rewriting a script helps.

2.  The Video Content is Inauthentic
Today's consumers value authenticity and they can smell B.S. a mile away. Never try to portray yourself or your company as something you're not. Embrace who you are and what you actually offer; people will relate to and engage with that content. As soon as viewers suspect pretense, their trust will be gone. In today's market, the truth shall set you free. Take some time for self-reflection about what you offer potential customers and authentically communicate that message.

3.  Distracting Noises on the Audio
Rule of thumb: The visual can suck but the audio can't! Visually you don't have to do anything fancy. A simple shot of you speaking in front of a nice background will never be distracting. However, distracting noises in the audio will kill your video every time. If you're on a budget, put your money towards a decent microphone as opposed to a fancy camera. It's amazing what you can do visually with an iPhone! However, without a proper microphone, the recording will pick up too many distracting noises. Try the Audio-Technica ATR-3350 Lavalier Omnidirectional Condenser Microphone to get started. It's affordable and compatible with an iPhone; you just need the adapter.

4.  The Intention of the Video is not Clear
This goes back to No. 1 and the importance of putting serious thought into the point of the video. Too often we get distracted by special effects and features, or telling elaborate stories, and forget that the video needs to have a clear and concise message. Never shoot a video simply because you think you're supposed to have a video. If that's the only reason you're shooting one, you're pretty much guaranteeing it won't be strong because it will lack intention for the viewer. BEFORE you ever pick up your audio equipment and camera, spend significant time clarifying the intention of the video and composing your script around that intention.

5.  Viewers Can't Take Immediate Action
The whole point of a marketing video is to get your viewer to take some sort of  action. Internet video marketing technology has advanced significantly with the dawn of the smart video, which allows viewers to take immediate action directly from the video itself. We all know the power of the impulse buy! Consumers are much more likely to follow through on a decision if they can act upon it instantly. Therefore, smart videos are a marketing video's best friend. If you haven't already started using a smart video marketing platform for your videos, it's time to start. InVidz.com has made the process extremely easy and affordable. It even offers a free membership to get you started.

"Remember the rule of quality over quantity," Santoro says. "One extremely effective video is better than 10 ineffective videos.

"When considering your next marketing video, check down this list to ensure it doesn't suck. You'll see the difference in your conversion rates!"
