Celebrate the autumn harvest by building your own scarecrow for display on Brucemore's historic 26-acre property during the first Scarecrow Invasion. Scarecrow armatures are on sale now and can be purchased by calling (319) 362-7375 or visiting the Brucemore Store and Visitor Center. Armatures are $15 per individual, family, class, or non-profit organization; or $25 per for-profit business. Delivery is available for a fee to Cedar Rapids, Marion, and Hiawatha addresses on October 5; all other scarecrows must be picked up at the Brucemore Store and Visitor Center. The public is invited to witness the invasion, October 13 through 27, Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, noon to 4 p.m. Vote for your favorite scarecrow October 13 through October 21. Winners will be announced on October 22 at 10 a.m.

2012-2013 World Adventure Series

The World Adventure Series is held September through April each year in the National Geographic Giant Screen Theater - you can travel the globe via the six-story screen, where filmmakers personally present their films. This film series has been held for more than 40 years at the Putnam, making it one of the most popular programs each year!

Individual film tickets may be purchased for $7. Putnam members pay $5/film or $25/series. First-come, first-served. Subject to availability.

Washington, D.C. - Congressman Dave Loebsack today joined the USO for a care package stuffing event to honor and thank members of our military on this National Day of Service.  Operation USO Care Package was initiated by the USO in 2001 as a response to 9/11 to provide our troops deployed overseas with much needed toiletries and entertainment items and international calling cards so they can stay in touch with loved ones here at home.

"I am honored to join the USO to give back to our troops who are protecting our freedom overseas, especially on this day as we participate in service activities to remember the victims of the 9/11 attack and honor the men and women who are serving our nation,"  said Loebsack.  "Our servicemembers devote themselves to our country each and every day with honor and distinction. Providing them with a care package is a simple but meaningful way we can thank them for their service and lift their spirits."
