Davenport, Iowa - August 2, 2008  - The Figge Art Museum will be holding information and training sessions about current volunteer opportunities and the Docent program at the museum on Tuesday, August 19 and Thursday, August 21 from 10 - 11:30 am. Students and adults who have an interest in community volunteerism or fine arts are encouraged to attend in the dining room

 

Figge docents lead tours of the collection and special exhibitions.  They also present slide programs in area schools, churches, and community centers. Other opportunities include customer service, public relations, library, administrative help and studio activities The session will include introductions to the docent and volunteer programs followed by a question and answer session.

You can help behind the scenes or out front welcoming guests; you can work with children, adults or museum staff; in the studio, the library or at special events; every bit helps the museum." said Director of Museum Services Jennifer Brooke

Up and coming Illinois rock band Post Historic is playing a special concert series at Mojo's Cafe with Sons of Apollo Saturday August 16th. Post Historic is a folk/rock band that is comparable in sound to Death Cab for Cutie and REM. They have just released their debut CD "Memory Banks of Blue" and are currently touring the midwest in promotion of the record. You can get the album on itunes, rhapsody, or at the show! Post Historic plays from 5-7pm and Sons of Apollo close the show from 7-9pm. Mojo's Cafe is located at 131 West 2nd Street in Davenport IA. Lutheran Services in Iowa (LSI) recently received a $9,000 grant to expand its school-based youth services  
Come join us for a good, ol' fashioned ice cream social featuring homemade goodies and treats on Friday, July 11th from 4pm 'til 8pm at the LeClaire Masonic Temple on Hwy 67 in LeClaire, Iowa. Sloppy joes, hot dogs, side dishes and beverages also available. Proceeds help the Silver Creek Eastern Star Chapter with their annual "Star Gifts for Kids' Christmas presents project.

The first Quad Cities Prayer Center (QCPC) School of Worship graduation was held Saturday, June 21. 

The Quad City Sports Center will be holding two sessions of its annual Camp Freeze this summer during the weeks of July 21-25 and August 4-8. Registration is still open for both sessions, and we will be taking campers up until the first day of camp.  

Camp Freeze offers comprehensive instruction for skaters of all ability levels. Our supportive coaching staff introduces campers to the fun and fundamentals of skating, whether you want to figure skate, play hockey or just enjoy the coolest sport in the world. Camp is open to boys and girls ages 5-18. The cost of Camp Freeze is $150 per week.
